Last Saturday our chapter held the annual Spring Sew Sampler - an all day event where members shared tutorials for some of their latest inspirations. One such project was a postage stamp quilt jacket - the perfect intersection piece for both quilters and garment sewists. Other members made presentations about ways to reimagine quilting, thermoregulating textiles and even a hands on session about making felted animals. Something for everyone. Our next chapter event is our Spring Retreat at the Seabeck Conference Center Apr 30-May 3. It's open to the public and spots are still available. I'll start - was very curious about attending a sewing retreat - actually dying to go but didn't know where, how, if I was like the other retreaters and would fit in or stick out. Well, I'm here to tell you, I attended my first sewing retreat as an confident beginner (at best) in 2022, joining the nicest group of sewists that are the ASG Washington Peninsulas chapter at Seabeck Conference Center - garment sewists, quilters, fabric crafter, purse makers and more. I didn't really know anyone, including my roommate, and it was one of the best things I did. Everyone was very welcoming and easy going, lots of interesting conversations about each other's projects, a LOT of laughter and joy. If you're thinking about it a sewing retreat for the first time but are hesitant, just take the leap and sign up - we can't wait to see you Apr 30-May 3. You can elect to say for just 3 days/2 nights or dip your toe into the retreat waters with a day use option. Did we mention every room has its own private bathroom? And all meals are included? Chapter members Evette and Cynthia participated in the PNW Fiber Arts Expo's first fashion show last Saturday in Port Angeles, WA and they very much brought it. Cynthia designed, dyed, sewed and modeled her Streaming Rainbow Jacket. A fiber friend modeled Evette's Bachan coat featuring her grandmother on the back and Cynthia closed the show wearing Evette's Feminist ensemble. Brava, ladies! Photo credit to Keith's Frame of Mind
