Join us for our upcoming Community Conversations: Estate Planning 101 on Wednesday, October 21, from 2:30 to 4:00PM at Kitsap Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Bremerton.

We're thrilled to welcome two experts from Northern Trust: Katrina Pipasts, CSPG, National Director of Planned Giving Services, with over 35 years in philanthropy and gift planning, and Matt Tilghman-Havens, JD, Senior Vice President, with nearly 20 years in wealth management and trusts and estates law. They'll be joined by our own CEO, Tina O'Brien, MNPL, CAP.

It's a relaxed, no-pressure afternoon of good information (and good conversations!). You'll learn the four documents everyone should have, the basics of wills and trusts, tax-smart ways to give, and how to create your will for free in just 20 minutes. Bring your questions, and a guest if you like.

Congratulations to our Board Chair, Tom Zwolfer, featured in this year's Who's Who in Kitsap County! 🎉

Tom and his family arrived on the Kitsap Peninsula in 2013 when he became Commanding Officer of Naval Base Kitsap, and they chose to stay. Since retiring after 34 years in the Navy, he's poured that same commitment into our community, including four years on the KCF board and leading the effort to build the USS Bremerton Monument.

This past Friday, September 25, Kitsap Community Foundation was honored to receive the 2026 Jerry & Nancy Reid Community Spirit Award at the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound's annual Treasure Hunters gala at the historic Admiral Theatre in Bremerton.

This award recognizes leadership, service, and commitment to strengthening our community, and we're sharing it with the Board, staff, volunteers, fund holders, and nonprofit partners who make our work possible across the Kitsap Peninsula.

Thank you to the Boys & Girls Clubs team for this recognition, and congratulations on raising nearly $240,000 for Club youth – the most successful Treasure Hunters to date. Small sparks, big futures indeed! ✨

Our team published this month's newsletter for the nonprofit community, DAF Day, estate planning resources, and open funding opportunities. Worth a look if you're connected to a nonprofit on the Peninsula.

Newsletter's out, nonprofit friends! A few things worth your time this month...

DAF Day is October 8, and you don't need to become a donor advised fund expert to make the most of it. We've got three simple tips to help your donors give through their DAF without any extra homework on your end.

We're also getting ready for National Estate Planning Awareness Week (October 19-25). Yes, we know, we JUST talked about wills in August. But estate planning is bigger than a will, and this gives you another angle for those legacy giving conversations. Simple five point plan, no formal planned giving program required.

Speaking of estate planning, join us Thursday, October 1 at Kitsap Regional Library in Poulsbo for a free interactive session on making the most of Estate Planning Week. Tina and Kim are leading it, and you'll walk away with more plug and play resources.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Kitsap Community Foundation is offering five funding opportunities for nonprofits serving Kitsap and North Mason Counties: Community Impact Grants, KCAR, KREEF, the Women’s Giving Circle, and Youth Mentoring.

Applications must be completed and submitted through the Grant Lifecycle Manager. Please note: KCF has a new grant platform this year, so returning applicants will need to create a new account.
