"The Washington State Young Republicans and I are heartbroken and outraged by the tragic murder of LeBron Givaun, a devoted husband, loving father, and faithful member of Pursuit NW Church, who was senselessly gunned down on the steps of his church in Seattle on July 31, 2025. This is a devastating loss for the Pursuit Church community, the Pacific Northwest, and all who knew LeBron. Our hearts go out to his wife, young son, and the entire church family as they grieve this unimaginable tragedy.
The Young Republicans stand unwaveringly with Pursuit NW in the face of this horrific act and the broader tide of hostility directed at people of faith. I am deeply troubled by the silence from Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, who has yet to offer any public support or condolence to the Christian community. Just months ago, on May 24, 2025, the Mayor was quick to issue a press statement condemning a Christian worship rally at Cal Anderson Park, seemingly siding with Antifa-style activists who disrupted the event, leading to 23 arrests.
This pattern of selective outrage and silence in the face of violence against Christians is unacceptable. The Mayor's failure to address shooting on church property stands in stark contrast to his swift condemnation of Christians earlier this year. Such leadership fosters an environment where violence against people of faith is implicitly tolerated, and it must end.
The WSYR will not back down. We stand shoulder to shoulder with Christians who face hatred and violence for their beliefs. Now, more than ever, we must elect leaders who will respond to city affairs with integrity, fairness, and a commitment to protecting all communities, including our churches. Leaders who encourage or turn a blind eye to violence against any group-especially those targeted for their faith-have no place in public office. We call for justice and a renewed commitment to ensuring that Seattle's churches are safe sanctuaries for worship, not scenes of tragedy."
