Don’t scroll, stay a while.

With the craziness at the end of the school year, the sounds of the riparian habitat are a good reminder to stop and take a breath.

Listen to the calming sounds of Santiago Creek, one of the main tributaries to the Santa Ana River. Santiago Creek provides essential habitat for many bird species and other wildlife. Turn the volume up, you can hear some of them!

Thanks for joining our “live stream” 😉

One of our favorite memories from April has to be the Children's Water Education Festival! We got to be a part of two booths, one supporting OC Waste & Recycling and one of our own, both highlighting local water and environmental issues for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students from across the county. Thank you to our partner, Orange County Water District for putting on this amazing annual event!

Happy Earth Day! We continue to celebrate and protect the natural environment in our communities of Orange County today and every day. This year’s theme is “Our power, Our planet.” How can we as individuals and as community build a sustainable future for all? 💚🌎

Happy from-the-field Friday! Do you know the name of this bird AND plant species?

The California Quail is known for being the state bird of California. The male's impressive head plumes help them attract female mates. These birds serve as a symbol for the state's wildlife and are a good reminder of the beautiful and unique species we have and need to protect during National Wildlife Week (April 6th-12th).

This plant, Laurel Sumac, can be identified by its taco-shaped leaves and red tinted stems. It is an important species in coastal sage scrub and chaparral ecosystems because of the shelter and food it can provide year round. It does not go dormant like other plants in the ecosystem, instead using its taco-shaped leaves as a water conservation strategy. During California Native Plant month we celebrate the important and beautiful plants like this one that make our state special.

Third graders explore the rich traditions of the Acjachemen and Tongva tribes during our immersive, two hour field trip "Gabrieliño Walk."

Through making shell beads, storytelling lessons, plant hikes, music, string making, and even spear throwing, students discover how the natural resources of Orange County shaped daily life in the past and present. Along the way, they reflect on sustainability, reciprocity, and the lasting presence of Native communities in Southern California.

We’re grateful to provide opportunities that inspire curiosity, respect, and deeper understanding. 🌎💛

Meet Alejandro, one of our amazing Field Naturalists 🌿

Alejandro joined the team in 2024, bringing with him a love for nature sparked by years in scouts, a background in geoscience, and a family rooted in education.

One of his favorite places to teach is Mt. SAC Wildlife Sanctuary, where it feels like an immersive natural escape tucked right into a suburban setting. When he’s not leading programs in both English and Spanish, you can probably find him camping or painting miniature figures using real dirt from the outdoors 🎨🌎

We’re so lucky to have Alejandro helping connect students to nature every day!

Happy World Water Day! Water is our most precious resource and these OC middle schoolers are learning exactly how to protect it. 🧪💻

Through our Wonders of Water program, students get hands-on experience with the skills water professionals use to keep our water safe. By finding the source of pollutants and designing solutions for watersheds, they’re gaining the awareness needed to safeguard our future.

Looking for free water education at your school? Hit the link in our bio to learn more and see if you qualify.

Special thanks to the Family of Orange County water providers and for partnering with us to make this happen!
