SMART Recovery meetings are now happening here at the Silver Stage Food Pantry! Information about meeting times and locations below. 💙 SMART Recovery meetings are free support groups designed to help people overcome addictive behaviors (substances like alcohol or drugs, as well as behaviors like gambling or overeating). SMART stands for Self-Management and Recovery Training. SMART Recovery prepares to launch and bring a new path toward hope, growth and lasting recovery. Locations and dates for meetings in Lyon County are below:

This Saturday, June 6, 2026, the UNR School of Medicine is holding a Rural Outreach Clinic at 3595 Hwy 50 Suite 1, Silver Springs, NV 89429 from 9AM-1PM. These clinics provide free medical services such as general physicals, sports physicals, laboratory services, breast exams, and more! Appointments can be made by referencing the number shown on the flyer. Walk-in’s are also welcomed. The last walk in will be accepted any time before noon. Translators are present at every clinic.

Our local public library has a spice club, and the June spice of the month is orange peel spice. Do you have any favorite recipes with orange peel spice, which is made from the dried rind of oranges? It's a convenient, shelf-stable substitute for fresh orange zest in both sweet baked goods and savory dishes. It works well in savory rubs for chicken and fish and baked goods such as cakes.

FBNN's SNAP Outreach will be here at the Pantry to answer your questions on the first Wednesday of each month, starting this Wednesday, June 3, 2026 from 10am to noon. SNAP work requirement updates began May 1, 2026. Some adults ages 18–64 without dependents may need to meet updated work requirements to keep their benefits. If you have questions, you are not alone — support is available. Food Bank of Northern Nevada (FBNN) SNAP Outreach team can help you understand what this means, talk through your situation, and connect you to resources. Black Bean Burger recipe: We have lots of beans at the pantry currently, including black beans. Flavorful Black Bean Burgers are as easy as combining black beans with ingredients like garlic, red onion, and spices. A little egg and breadcrumbs help hold the patty together, and you’ve got a hearty, freezer-friendly burger. Ingredients:

Two 15oz. cans of black beans
1/4 red onion
1 clove of garlic
1tsp of mayonnaise
1/4 tsp pepper
1 large egg
1 cup plain breadcrubs
2 tsp cooking oil
Optional: 1 tsp sriracha, 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp soy sauce, spices such as red pepper

Instructions:

Rinse and drain the canned black beans. Mix all ingredients. Shape into about 6 patties, about 3.5 inches in diameter or about 1/2 inch thick. Cook with oil in a skillet over medium heat until browned and heated through (about 4-5 minutes on each side).

Place patties on buns or bread, add your favorite toppings and enjoy!

Lyon schools are offering FREE summer meals & meal kits for students all summer long! 🍎🥪Meal kits include 7 days’ worth of breakfast and lunch, with one kit available per child each week. Distribution will take place every Wednesday from 10:00–11:00 AM at various schools, including at Silver Stage Elementary in Silver Springs, NV. Parents or guardians may pick up meal kits on behalf of their child by providing the student’s name and student ID number at the time of pick-up.

Meal kits include 7 days’ worth of breakfast and lunch, with one kit available per child each week. Distribution will take place every Wednesday from 10:00–11:00 AM at the following locations:
