We’re proud to announce the recipients of the 2026 National Trails Day® Micro-Grant Program! 🎉
This year, American Hiking Society expanded the program to award four incredible organizations and communities working to make the outdoors more welcoming, accessible, and connected through meaningful National Trails Day® events on Saturday, June 6.
Meet the 2026 recipients ⬇️
🌲 Town of Lisbon, Maine
The Town of Lisbon is creating more inclusive opportunities for outdoor recreation within their local community. This National Trails Day®, they’ll host a sensory-friendly hiking experience designed specifically for neurodivergent individuals and their families, featuring sensory exploration stations, guided activities, and supportive accommodations that help make trails feel more accessible, welcoming, and enjoyable for all.
🥾 Brown People Camping
Brown People Camping is a community-centered organization focused on creating more inclusive outdoor experiences and helping underrepresented communities feel welcome in nature. As they celebrate their 10-year anniversary, they’ll mark National Trails Day® with an event centered around community-building, native history and land acknowledgment, trail stewardship, and beginner-friendly outdoor experiences for people of intersectional identities, including women and LGBTQIA+ participants.
🌿 Destination Hike, LLC. .hike
Destination Hike creates outdoor experiences designed to foster wellness, connection, and representation on the trails — particularly for African American women. For National Trails Day®, they’ll host a curated hiking and wellness experience focused on sisterhood, stewardship, and reclaiming outdoor spaces, complete with a trail cleanup activity and community luncheon designed to remove barriers to participation and make hiking more accessible.
🏃 Native Women Run Albuquerque
Native Women Run Albuquerque is a Native women-led run club that builds community and connection through running, hiking, and honoring the land. Founded in 2024, the group hosts regular gatherings that blend movement, culture, and environmental stewardship. Their National Trails Day® celebration will feature a community fun walk/hike and trail cleanup focused on caring for the land while empowering Native women through outdoor recreation and shared community experiences.
National Trails Day® is about more than getting outside — it’s about creating spaces where everyone feels they belong. We’re honored to support these organizations and can’t wait to see their events come to life this June.
