Nakba Day, Nakba means “catastrophe in Aribic, also known as the Palestine Catastrophe, is a commemoration event--recognized yearly on May 15--that recognizes the time when 750,000 Palestinians were permanently expelled from their homeland during the 1948 creation of Israel. There is an inexplicable irony in the Jews fleeing the N**i holocaust and harrowingly long, world-wide discrimination, initiating the Israel genocide of Palestinians, now at war, occupying 60% of Palestine. Without Congressional approval, the American President has joined Israel in another war, bombing and killing 150 school girls, a crime that has implications ofr all of us. The fix may be up to Donavon’s Universal Soldier.

This season’s 15th rattlesnake may be the prettiest one we’ve ever seen.

I’m visiting Cinda in Astoria. There is a community college (different from Jr. College as community is more involved) just up the street from the house that has a three level gym-type facility: [1] walking rink and exercise classrooms, [2] 2nd floor with maybe 20 exercise and weight machines and [3] a 3rd floor with a basketball court. This is the view from the top floor.

Yesterday saw two Ringtail Ratetlesnakes arrive on the Pitchfork, both in this bucket, one barely showing its head.

This location of the authentic ciénaga was named “Cooper’s Doubt” because, in 2005 when the restoration began, a guy named Cooper thought it was not a good place to pound in a row of 6’ Juniper posts, here barely visible about the center of the top photo. While he may hsve been right, by 2020, the top of the posts were, depending on the time of year, 4 to 12 inches below the water surface and the width of the water-flow was five times its initial width.

Occasionally, the change from the ranch restoration is so dramatic, you can’t tell it’s the same location.

Because the rancher North of us has installed 58 earthen dams that can pool more than 12,000,000 gallons of water, we’ve not had a flood in the reack of the 48-mile long B***o Ciênaga on the Pitchfork Ranch for several years, but we once had a water flow in front of the headquarters like this for 173 days.
