Save the Date! UGWA, the Lotus Center of Silver City and the Silver City Food Co-op will be hosting a film screening of the Seeds of Vandana Shiva. This powerful documentary follows the life and accomplishments of Vandana Shiva and her fight to protect the diversity and integrity of living resources. Please join us April 22nd at WNMU Light Hall from 7:00 pm -8:30 pm to learn more about Vandana Shiva and the importance of food stability and preservation of resources.

Looking for a way to give back to the planet this Earth Day. Join the City Nature Challenge and help document our area's biological diversity. More info at the link belows.

We're excited to partner with Bird Alliance of Southwestern New Mexico and Amphibian and Reptile Conservancy to host 2026 City Nature Challenge - Silver City! We have an awesome lineup of events, starting this Friday: we'll be at the Silver City Library to talk about the amazing biodiversity of our region and practice using the iNaturalist app to identify species. We're excited to build on our successes from last year when we documented 384 species. Our goal for this year is to hit 500! How many species will YOU find?! Gila Earth Day kicks off with a Community Litter Cleanup hosted by Silver City Pick It Up-Toss No Mas. Hope you'll join us!

We're gearing up for one of our biggest events of the year: our Earth Day cleanup! 🌎 Earth Day is an annual day to show your love for this wonderful planet we call home. This Earth sustains each and every one of us, providing us with food, water, air, and all the materials we use for housing, infrastructure, technology, and more. 💖 Our planet is worth thanking, cherishing, and celebrating. Our Earth Day cleanup on April 18th is one of many Gila Earth Day celebrations being hosted by GRIP programs. City Nature Challenge - Silver City starts this Friday!!! We're so excited to meet with local naturalists to find wild birds, plants, insects, fish, reptiles, and other critters around Grant County. If you missed our iNaturalist training, you can check out the recording on our website. While you're there, you can also RSVP for one of our guided events and hikes!
