NM Primary Care Training Consortium

NM Primary Care Training Consortium Bringing together primary care residency programs to increase the quality and quantity of primary care training in New Mexico.

The New Mexico Primary Care Training Consortium (NMPCTC) brings together all primary care residency programs to increase the quality and quantity of primary care training in New Mexico, while preserving the individuality of each program. Physicians in residency training in New Mexico are encouraged to provide clinical care within the context of the community in which they live. The Family Medicine

residencies in New Mexico offer a unique combination of tertiary care training with broad experiences in urban communities like Las Cruces and Albuquerque, while also decentralizing the training experience to rural and frontier settings like the โ€œ1+2โ€ model in Santa Fe and Silver City. The New Mexico Primary Care Training Consortium serves as a united front in statewide primary care training, advocacy, administration and development. We believe that the health of a nation is built on the foundation of primary care, and we are dedicated to making this foundation strong for our community by training highly skilled family physicians. Goals of the NMPCTC:
1.Develop, implement and manage services that support and enhance training for Primary Care providers in NM;
2. Support workforce development in the Primary Care field in identified underserved areas throughout NM by working with existing and developing new family medicine residency programs;
3. Provide outreach and technical assistance in recruiting and training of new Primary Care providers in NM;
4. Identify best practice activities that enhance primary care training in New Mexico with a focus on rural experiences. Medicaid Teaching Health Centers:
NMPCTC provides support for the development of new or expanded training in the state through technical assistance and encouraging statewide training collaboration including the development of Medicaid supported Residencies in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). In New Mexico, FQHCs that participate in primary care physician training may be eligible for enhanced payments from Medicaid that will support 100% of the cost of training residents in accredited programs on a full or part-time basis; as part of existing training programs or independently. To find out more about the Medicaid Teaching Health Center program visit the website at http://www.NewMexicoResidencies.org and contact the NMPCTC office for more information.

During National PTSD Awareness Month, it is essential for healthcare professionals to recognize that women and racial and ethnic minority populations often face unique trauma exposures, barriers to care, and disparities in PTSD diagnosis and treatment. By providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed care and actively addressing these inequities, physicians can help improve access to treatment, patient outcomes, and overall mental health equity.
