How many of us are sad that our kids this generation, don’t play outside until it gets dark, like we did when we were children? Why the hat Spenser wore when he came to volunteer nails it! This bright-eyed ready to get dirty kid puts a smile on the farm every time he comes. He came weekly during the summer, and is coming Monday because there is no school! Rooted Ginger Farm sets up a place for kids like him to get off their screens and become producers away from consuming. They come learning things about nature, food, and they help us help people in whom we serve! I’m blown away how I have yet to hear, when I ask a kid after they work at the farm if they would rather be on their phones or work at the farm? That long pause and that “uhhh I don’t know” shocks me & then gives me the greatest joy!
The farm right now is currently fundraising. Actually it’s really fun-raising! If you want to help us continue to make a space for kids to come and make a difference not only in their lives, but the lives of others! Please consider being one of our monthly donors of $25 a month! The cost of 4 cups of Starbucks coffee will fund about 20 kids a month to come and volunteer- just giving some real perspective.

4-h club are the hardest workers! And some came little! They came eager & ready to help 26 total! So fun turning on the lights at dusk while they finished up mulching. Wish you could see their smiling faces!

My least favorite part in running a farm is raising funds so that I can do what I love just as much as those who love receiving the fresh produce & those who love to come and help me grow them!
I’m doing a “40 people to sow $25 a month campaign”. I’ll be then funded to get back to the dirt!!
What your $25 a month will reap:
Deliver bouquets to hurting widows & elderly at our local nursing homes. Their smile is worth a million!

*this year we did 73 💐 for the elderly & widows. With your 🌱25 a month we want to do more this coming year!

I could show you all the work these guys (John Brown University awesome students) did in clearing out the flower beds. But it may be more interesting to see them pass the frog around loving the wild life they find here at the farm🐸♥️

I think my tagline for what I do is, I run a “people farm”. This would include: John Brown University, Students from U of A, Arvest Bank, Teen Challenge, Cookson Hill, 4-club, CHESS, Home schooling co-ops, individuals, teachers, professors, public school students, family & friends! It’s creating a space for people to come and do something for a bigger & better good!

It’s really hard to believe it’s that time of year!! A year has now gone by from my last farmraising and what we did with your donation!!

Here’s a recap that the farm gave:

*180 kids at the Boys & Girls Club sweet tomatoes & sweet peppers in their snack program.

*100 veterans roughly 3 servings each of organic produce

*74 bouquets to widows & elderly

*600 low-income individuals with a serving of fresh organic produce

*100 servings of sweet tomatoes & sweet mini peppers to a homeless day shelter

*100 servings of produce to neighbors and local church nearby

And as of today, 960 volunteer hours

Beautiful day with beautiful kids from Cookson Hill junior high kids came and cleaned out Ability Tree’s “ sunshine garden”. I’m really excited about this group! If you don’t know them, they are a children’s home in Northeast Oklahoma, serving kids ages 5-17 who want to write a better story for their lives. They have experienced challenges with family life, homelessness, poor peer relationships, abuse, or neglect. We hope for them to come on a regular basis to help us grow, as we see them grow.
* they made bouquets to take with them! The best way to officially end our flower season.

For some reason I always think about veterans & the elderly when I think of okra (purple) & squash. We recently gave fresh okra & a mix of squash/zucchini to 50 veterans at the VA food pantry. And 30 squash/zucchini to the elderly in our community. Some who are widows. Now to just join them at the table and hear their stories! 😍
