Dustin's Dream

Dustin's Dream Dustin Lee Chamberlain was a Sophomore at Baylor University, majoring in Biology and pre-med when he left this world as we know it for his Heavenly Home.
(1)

Our Mission: Sharing the transformational love of God by meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of at-risk individuals and families in Guatemala and beyond. On December 15, 2011, after just returning home for Christmas break, Dustin was tragically shot and killed during a home invasion. Dustin was actively involved in the MSO (Medical Service Organization), AMSA (American Medical Ser

vice Organization), and the Bear Pit (a basketball spirit organization) at Baylor University. He attended Harris Creek Baptist Church in McGregor, TX. Dustin’s dream was to be involved in the medical field as well as participate in mission trips abroad or at home. Students at Baylor remember Dustin as a mighty man of God, an encourager, studious, and genuinely kind. When students questioned Dustin as to how he could consistently make wise choices and stand firm in his faith, Dustin would reply, “Because I love God with all my heart and I don’t want to give Him less than my best.”

Prior to his time at Baylor, Dustin attended Siloam Springs High School where he was a vital member of the basketball, cross country and golf programs. Dustin also participated in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Big Brothers and Big Sisters mentoring program, and was an Arkansas Scholar. Dustin graduated in May 2010 with 4.0 GPA. At 20 years of age, Dustin’s work here on earth was accomplished. And while our family has struggled to understand God’s sovereignty, love, and perfect will, God has proven Himself to us over and over again. Our desire is that Dustin’s Dream will be a successful organization that will share God’s love in a dark and hurting world, and that Dustin’s legacy will continue to impact souls for Christ.

Our last clinic day in Guatemala was spent in Xenacoj at the Freedom House. Today we were able to provide dental along with medical which is a huge blessing to the precious people in this community.

How exciting it was to see the progress of construction on the Freedom House. Pastor Saul shared how he hoped to have it ready for the grand opening in October.

The evening ended with the feeding in the settlement where 350 people were able to receive a hot meal. What a joy it was to visit with the people and see the excitement on their faces as they came through the line.

After the feeding, the team gathered at the clinic for a time of sharing and prayer. It's always so difficult to say good bye to those we have served alongside of and love so dearly.

Tonight part of our team is heading home with the rest leaving early in the morning. We would greatly appreciate your prayers for safe travels. God is good...all the time.

Today Dr. Layla and team took some time off in the middle of a very busy stretch of mobile clinic days to visit market and have lunch in Antigua. What a relaxing time it was and much needed for all. Tomorrow we head to Xenacoj to have clinic at the Freedom House and visit and share with families in the community. The evening will end with the feeding in the settlement. It's hard to believe the week is soon to come to an end and the goodbyes will be difficult. We appreciate your prayers as we finish out the week and travel back to the states.

After a day of seeing patients in Belen out of Pastor Hugo's church and going on home visits, we had the privilege of spending the evening with the Peregrinos (Pilgrims). The night started with a message from Neil Estep about who God is and His love for us. Many, from the young to the old, went forward for prayer. Before the evening ended we had the privilege of serving a warm meal, prepared by our amazing cook, Elma. For many this may be the only hot meal they have had for the week. I love this night as it reminds me of what we are all called to do: share God's love and plan of salvation, and care for those who are in need. It also makes me very grateful for the many blessings I so often take for granted in my own life.

Today clinic was at San Jose Nacahuil, a community of San Pedro Ayampuc. 234 patients were seen and we had the privilege of visiting with 6 families in the community for a time of sharing and gifting them with much needed groceries. There are so many stories we could share but the greatest news of the day was of two who recently have accepted Christ. It's so encouraging to see how God is working in this community and what an honor it was to be able to meet and serve these precious people.

Tomorrow the team will head to Belen in zone 7 of Mixco for our 2nd mobile clinic.

What a blessing today was as we were able to serve alongside Dr. Layla and her staff at Corazon de Amor clinic, caring for 160 patients. What a joy it is to be able to connect with those living in the settlement, whether in a clinic setting or out doing home visits. One of the highlights of the day was being able to bless a family in need with a new bunk bed. The joy on their faces was indescribable and was a reminder of how much we often take for granted in our own lives.

The evening ended with preparations for mobile clinic in San Pedro Ayampuc tomorrow. Thank you for your continued prayers.

What an amazing and full Sunday the team has had in Guatemala. The day begin with feeding the children at Iglesia Bautista Cristo es el Camino, followed by worship, and a message from Rocky Spear on Jesus' teaching of how we are to pray (Matthew 6:9-13). We were reminded to begin with an attitude of worship ("our Father")and surrender ourselves to God ("Thy will be done").

The afternoon consisted of preparing for clinic tomorrow at Corazon de Amor and filling grocery bags for our home visits this week.

Dr. Clark and his family will arrive tonight (after a canceled flight last night) and this will complete our team of 13 members.

We are looking forward with anticipation to what God has in store for the week and covet your prayers for those we will be serving, as well as for our team members.
