Peggy was diagnosed with Crohn’s in her teens and had her first bowel resection and an ileostomy at 23. Over the years, additional surgeries left her with just a little more than two feet of intestines and a Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) diagnosis.

“I understood the part about my intestines being ‘shorter’ but I didn’t yet understand that there was more to my SBS than just the length of my remaining intestines. I also had reduced function of my remaining intestines, meaning I wasn’t able to absorb enough nutrients from food and drink and needed to depend on parenteral support to maintain my health. This is sometimes referred to as SBS with intestinal failure.” – Peggy, Living with Short Bowel Syndrome

Short Film Inspired by Ostomate Set to Premiere at a Los Angeles Film Festival. The film captures a pivotal moment in time. Rai, a musician who just had ostomy surgery, is isolating at home struggling to come to terms with his new reality. "I hope by telling a story like this we can bring comfort to those who may be suffering as I did. I thought having ostomy surgery would ruin my life, but instead it gave me my life back. Please join us on this special day as we celebrate a film that features a character living with an ostomy." -Raimo Strangis Read more: https://www.ostomy.org/from-the-stage-to-ostomy-surgery-to-the-big-screen/
