Living Memorial Gardens

The Living Memorial Gardens in Sidney Nebraska is asking for help. We tore up a rather nasty place on the north side of the gazebo. Four pickup loads were hauled to the compost at the city landfill. Our thought is to plant the area in ornamental grasses. That way we will be able to control the broad leaf plants that have roots to China and back. It is going to take years to keep them at bay. Anyway is there anyone out in the area who has had a lot of success with ornamental grasses in our zip code? We are looking for advice, planting scheme, plant selection etc, I have included pictures if the area and of course feel free to go check out the space on your own. Msg me if this is something you can help us with!! Thanks in advance !!

Besides Tai Chi at the gardens in Sidney NE this morning some very special people cleaned out the mess just east of the Garden of Hope. 4 pickup loads of unwanted vegetation ended up in the compost area of the landfill. Thanks to Mike Westman, Jerry Langdon, and Alice Needem for all of their work!

I have had requests for the easy location and an easy way to donate to Living Memorial Gardens. Enter the south side of the gardens next to the terrace and you will find it on your left in the black box.

On another note the butterflies are still there! I have no idea how long their migration lasts but don’t miss the opportunity to see them. You will not be disappointed!

A big note of thanks for our great town of Sidney. A few weeks ago we had a Kids Day in the Garden. One of our activities was to make a “rock snake.” Each child (and some adults too) decorated a rock and like magic a snake appeared! A real joy is that no one has bothered our Sidney Snake! Also since that day we have received $80 in our donation box. Those donations keep the Gardens blooming. A heartfelt thank you to all.

Today the current visitors at the Living Memorial Gardens put on quite a show!! Hundreds if not thousands of butterflies lunched on our flowers. The best viewing spots were the zinnia beds and the south terrace. It is well worth your while to go check them out. Look carefully because their colors blend in so well with the flowers.

Yes, Yes, Yes! Tai Chi is this Saturday, September 19th in the Gazebo at Living Memorial Gardens. This is a Free Event for those interested in learning more about the ancient Chinese Martial Art of Tai Chi. Good for your mental and physical well-being, it's fun, too! Come join Treyvon Neumann from Modern Moves Studio at 8:00 a.m. at the LMG Gazebo in Legion Park in Sidney. It's a wonderful way to start your day!We look forward to seeing you there!

The gardens are joining one of the garden plot caretakers to create a float for the Oktoberfest parade. Michelle Haun and her Girl Scout troop spent time creating these precious flowers as decorations for the float. One of our gardeners Dawn Buchart added the painted flowers. Good job everyone! Be on the lookout for LMG and the Girl Scout float at the parade.
