Spring is in full bloom, making May the perfect time for youth to learn about the creatures that help our plants and ecosystems thrive. This month’s Spark Start highlights May activities on CLOVER by 4-H focused on the power of pollinators.

Youth in grades K-12 can discover the important role pollinators – like ants, bats, bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds – play in helping plants grow and supporting the growth of the foods we eat. Through fun, hands-on learning experiences, young people will explore how these small but mighty creatures make a big difference in the health of our environment.

Rates of foodborne illness tend to increase during the summer months because germs grow faster in warmer, more humid weather. People also cook and eat outside, making shortcuts to food safety tempting because they are away from the convenience of soap and running water at the kitchen sink.
