--FWP to host public meeting on fishing regulations proposals in Glasgow at the FWP headquarters on Wednesday, May 6, at 6 p.m.--

Go here to learn more on the proposals, comment, and see meeting dates and times: https://fwp.mt.gov/aboutfwp/public-comment-opportunities/fishing-regulations

If you are interested in angling in Montana, your input is needed to help craft new fishing regulations for the next two years.

FWP will host a public meeting on Wednesday, May 6 at 6:00 p.m. at the Region 6 office, 1 Airport Road in Glasgow. Staff will present fishing regulation proposals, answer questions and collect input.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking public input on 41 preliminary fishing regulation proposals for the 2027–2028 fishing regulations. FWP is also interested in hearing from anglers on additional ideas for regulation changes.

A few of the proposals include changes to regulations in FWP Region 6’s portion of the eastern fishing district. These include:

• Proposal 1: Definitions of Hook and Bait (Clarification)
• Proposal 4: Eastern District Standard Smallmouth Bass Limits
• Proposal 6: Transportation of Live Fish in the Eastern District
• Proposal 8: Including Tiger Trout to Combined Trout for Central and Eastern District Standard Limits
• Proposal 40: Missouri River - Cow Creek to Beachamp Creek Setlines Limit and Season Length

At the May 6 public meeting, FWP staff will be on hand to answer questions. Comments submitted online will be used to develop a regulation proposal package for the Fish and Wildlife Commission. This proposal package will go out for public comment in August before going to the Commission for final consideration at its fall 2026 meeting.

Comments on individual proposals, as well as new regulation ideas from the public, can be submitted through the FWP website, or by mail to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, P.O. Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620. Comments for this initial scoping effort will be collected through May.

If you are unable to attend this in-person meeting on May 6, there will be a statewide virtual meeting on May 26 at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. Please check the online regulations page for more information.

Regulations are set by the Fish and Wildlife Commission, which is a seven-member board appointed by Gov. Greg Gianforte and independent from FWP. The commissioners will review public comments and feedback and, prior to the final meeting in the fall, propose any amendments they feel are necessary. Commissioners may also make changes to the regulation proposals during the final meeting.

362 different anglers fished this year’s Montana Cats Circuit events and over 50 fished multiple tournaments this season! Here is the Final Top 20 standings for 2025 Montana Cats Angler of the Year. Presented by B'n'M Fishing.

Brenner Flaten, Glasgow, MT., secured his 2nd career “AOY” with a Championship this weekend in Williston! That finish paired with a tournament title in Sidney last month and a 6th place finish in Huntley to kick off the year gave him 70 total points this season.

The 70 points was just one point clear of his brother, Jason Flaten, of Elko NV. Jake teamed up with Brenner at the Challenge and the Roundup and also secured a runner-up finish at the Cat Classic in Glasgow for a total of 69 points.

Todd Lindsay of Laurel, MT., came out swinging this season! His top three finishes were 7th place at the Challenge and back to back 3rd place finishes in Sidney and Williston over the last month which helped him put 65 points on the board and lock up a 3rd place finish in this year’s “AOY” race.

Rounding out the top five was last year’s Anglers of the Year, the “Wise Guys”, Bobby and Robert out of Billings. The veterans put another fine season together finishing with 55 points and finish in a tie for 4th place.

Until NEXT season‼️. Please “Share”
