PROTECT THE HERD: Elk Collaring in Nebraska

In partnership with the UNL School of Natural Resources and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, this project investigates the spatial ecology, behavior, and population dynamics of elk across western Nebraska. The research aims to provide state managers with critical insights for effective harvest regulation, habitat management, and mitigation of agricultural conflicts.

The Guardian is here to help share the work that is already reshaping how Nebraska manages its growing elk population, offering the most detailed picture yet of where these animals roam, how they thrive, and what it will take to ensure their future on the prairie.

On today’s 🆕 episode of The Journey Within Podcast, I’m joined by Julie Lund of Worldwide Trophy Adventures. Julie wears a lot of hats with WTA, but in this conversation, she is the manager of the WTA Outdoor Guardian Fund. Julie and I talk through the launch of this newly established 501c3 Non-Profit Organization for Conservation and the background of what it is and why it was formed.

The Guardian Fund’s mission is, “To ensure generations of wildlife and fishery resources through preservation, sustainable management, conservation and education.” Some of the projects that have already been kicked off are Elk and Mule Deer Collaring in Western Nebraska and Turkey Restoration in Kentucky.
