It’s raining. The kids are driving you crazy . You’re dreading going back To work tomorrow. There’s nothing good to eat in the fridge . Your neighbor is giving you dirty looks from across the way because you missed church once again and it was your turn to make the chili . If any of these scenarios sound a bit too familiar, then you’ve got a bad case of ineedacatfromdvhs. Buuuuut…

Good morning from Miss Weezer! Anyone else dealing with allergy overload this year?! Instead of the Hippy Hippy Shakes, my girls got the Itchy Witchy Shakes! So we’re off to the vet to get her some relief .
Wishing everyone a happy Friday and was hoping that you could do one thing for us today. It’s been one heck of a month and since last week we have taken approximately 25 cats and we have had to get several of our dogs Spayed and neutered. We continue to have a lot of animals coming in and we are committed to providing the best care possible while they wait to be adopted . That being said, it would mean so much to us if you could take the time to participate in our five dollar Friday.. We have just about 20,000 followers on here and if 1/4 of you donated a dollar that sure would add up. Now imagine if 1/4 of you donated five dollars! 🤍🐴 **BIG TIM UPDATE** 🐴🤍

Big Tim, our big white grade QH gelding, is the boy Teresa and I saved at the last Unadilla sale. He is doing very well and slowly gaining weight! ❤️

We noticed he was a little sore on the front end, so we took him to Leatherstocking Veterinary Services to have some X-rays done. Unfortunately, they showed the beginning stages of **navicular.** 🥺🥺

But that's okay — **this is NOT career-ending for Big Tim!** With the right maintenance and corrective shoeing, I truly believe this boy is going to make someone a phenomenal horse.

Our farrier came yesterday and started his corrective shoeing, and he is already moving **SO much better!** ❤️🙌

We're still waiting on a call back from the dentist to get his teeth done. After that, it's going to be lots of groceries, TLC and time. I'm hoping that in the next **60–90 days**, Big Tim will be ready to find his perfect family. 🏡❤️

If anyone would like to help contribute toward **Big Tim's expenses**, we would truly appreciate it. We also have a few other horses here who could use some extra TLC — including **Romeo**, who we saved from the Amish a few months ago.

And we have some GREAT news about Romeo! His wound has **FINALLY healed**, and he has officially been allowed off stall rest! 🎉🐴❤️ It's been a long road for that boy, so we're pretty excited about this step!

This is such a wonderful group of people and we are so fortunate to have the Sidney United Way in our corner at DVHS. The list of non profits that this organization serves HERE-right here in our community-is just incredible and they do it for one reason-because they love to serve those in need .
We wouldn’t be here today without the help from this fine organization and the team that makes them UNITED. We know them all personally and even consider them friends . Part of our enrichment time with our dogs is offering them a chance to leave the shelter with us . Diana and Haddie were smooth criminals the other day when they took off for a little break from the shelter and enjoyed a car ride with the windows down ♥️ Haddie has been waiting for a home for just shy of a year . We’re not gonna lie -she’s a tough one but we just know her person is out there somewhere! Somewhere there’s a special person living alone , lacking in his or her social life, waiting for someone or something to share leftovers with . Well here she is ! Haddies been a hard one to properly assess since her mood fluctuates so much depending on many things…I swear sometimes she is mad at me because she doesn’t like the color blanket she’s sleeping on .
Hear me out: no kids, no cats and she’s leery of strangers . We would be willing to re-test her with cats

Sterling 🩵
About a month ago we received a call from an individual who was requesting medical help but refused to leave her home until she knew her animals were being cared for . After calling around to see about having a wellness check done on but getting nowhere , I decided to phone a friend to feed the dogs for her for the night . Two weeks later , that friend called and voiced his concerns about the owner and her animals. When I learned that he had been going twice a day for two weeks, I knew we needed to get involved . And that’s what we did .
After a few trips and many conversations through the door , she was willing to give me the two dogs (one is already in foster ) and several cats (still working on the last batch)
This situation is an important one to learn from . As our neighbors , family members and friends age, if obviously gets a little harder to maintain daily routines that would otherwise be second nature. This was not an act of cruelty not rather a situation where both the animals and their owner were in danger . We as a shelter can go in and help the animals but that also comes with a moral obligation to do the right thing for people too. We’ve taken that step and we’re hopeful that this individual can get the help she needs while making her health and happiness priority.
This all transpired because a neighbor was concerned and they weren’t afraid to get involved . Don’t hesitate to check on the people around you . Sometimes you are the only thing standing in between someone or something perishing and someone or something flourishing . So here’s our message to you : check on your neighbors, friends and family ♥️
This is her dog, Sterling & although she understands that she may not be getting him back due to her current medical condition and inability to care for him, we want to be clear that we always want animals to remain in their home . Unfortunately in this situation, there was no way possible to make this work long term so Sterljng is with us waiting for a foster home. It is obvious that at one time, these dogs were very invested in and their mannerism supports that.
Sterling needs a temporary home while we figure things out. Please message me here so we can arrange a meet and greet! He seems to be hair done with dogs and he’s cat friendly so far . Sterling is a 4 yr old Collie . 🩵
We’d like to send a special thank you to Mindy at Dog Grooming and Boarding at The Canine Canal for taking care of this handsome boy and making him look so dapper (and not smell like a dead toad !) As always , Mindy refused any payment from us and she took excellent care of him ensuring that he was sparkly clean and most of all, he felt so much better. Always gentle, always kind .
So In return, I made a deal with her . She is caring for a mother and her kittens that all need a home. Please see below pics of available kittens and their mother who will be spayed before she leaves but she would prefer to be a working girl (get your mind out of the gutter !) A nice garage or perhaps a barn where she can be free but still grab a quick bite and get warm when need be -that’s what she’s looking for! She’s not all the way feral and can be handled but she hates being picked up and quite frankly, she seems to really want to be outside . Cheeto (now Chad) and Salish (now Suki) are the new studio cats Gallery Three-Two-One in Oxford ! Growing up in our home, my siblings and I were used to having a studio cat so when my sister (below)let me know that she wanted another one after losing Toby (a DVHS alumni of course ) I happily delivered two ! The cats keep her company while she’s making pots or checking kilns and they seem to have a pretty awesome life watching the birds , exploring and sleeping on their heated beds .
