During the Cold War era threat of nuclear bombs, observers were stationed at the Fremont County Courthouse utilizing the tower and catwalk to keep a watch for enemy planes. Volunteers keeping watch were ordinary citizens including mothers, housewives, etc. The article attached from the July 22, 1954 Sidney Argus Herald explains the program.

Two Civil War Soldiers buried side by side in the Sidney Cemetery. One fought for the north and one for the south. Samuel Williams - Confederate Soldier - A.L. Stitt - Union Soldier. Flags have been placed on all Veteran graves for Memorial Day. The poppy wreath honors all Veterans buried in the cemetery.
