Cherokee, Iowa PRCA!

I’ve been waiting for this rodeo all year! I had the honor to join the fun Friday and Saturday.

I stayed busy this weekend, between nursing home visits, the Cherokee Rodeo Queen pageant, town wide cook out, a very rainy parade and two great performances! I could not have felt more welcomed by the committee and community at the Cherokee PRCA Rodeo brought to you by Central Bank and Central Insure! I also got to meet Emily
Collins, Miss Rodeo Alaska. I loved getting to rodeo along side some of my favorite queens this weekend!

Thank you to Megan, the Cherokee Queen coordinator, for organizing the weekend and stops for us! Thank you to Tayah, the outgoing Miss Rodeo Cherokee, and Allison for always knowing the flags we need and helping us stay organized. Thank you to my sponsors (notice my beautiful Billy Cook Saddle in the photos!). As well as the countless others who helped me through this weekend!

Remember the reason for the long weekend:

Memorial Day weekend is a time to remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

The original Freedom Rock near Greenfield, Iowa is painted each year by Ray “Bubba” Sorensen II, stands as a tribute to those who served and those we’ve lost. Now in its 28th repainting, this year’s artwork honors America’s upcoming 250th anniversary, the 165th anniversary of the Medal of Honor, the 25th anniversary of September 11, and the Iowa service members lost in the past year. Even the iconic Huey tribute carries the ashes of more than 175 Vietnam veterans, making it an especially meaningful memorial. It’s an amazing memorial within our state, and an important reminder this weekend. Bubba has also painted a rock in each of the 99 counties in Iowa and is starting a 50 State Freedom Rock Tour. This weekend, we pause in gratitude for the heroes who gave everything so we could live in freedom. May we never forget their sacrifice, their courage, and the families who carry their memory forward.

Thank you to the Iowa Horse Fair for having me this weekend!

I had the opportunity to spend 3 days at the fairgrounds signing autographs, speaking with vendors and meeting other queens! Both Friday and Saturday there were at least 9 queens signing from all over the state (and beyond)! On top of queen signings they had tons of great clinics, speakers and a fantastic rodeo!

When in western South Dakota…

This weekend I found time to travel to a rodeo arena on my bucket list! If only it was sunny and warm for an outdoor rodeo, instead of I got snow!

Here’s some history of such a iconic rodeo and rodeo arena:
Held each year in Deadwood, the town-wide celebration traces its roots back to 1923, when local residents came together to honor the pioneers, miners, and settlers who shaped the Black Hills during the gold rush era. The name “Days of ’76” pays tribute to 1876—the year Deadwood was founded during the height of the Black Hills Gold Rush.

The rodeo began in approximately 1926. Once the Cowboys Turtle Association was formed (prior to the creation of the PRCA), the rodeo became sanctioned with that association. It is the only rodeo in the history of the PRCA to have won the PRCA’s Rodeo of the Year in all three size categories: Small, Medium and Large Outdoor Rodeo of the Year. Additionally, being inducted into the PRCA’s Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2011.

As I walked around I could help but admire the arena and wooden grandstand. The historic grandstand was built in the 1930’s with funds from the Civilian Conservation Corps during Depression days. This rodeo still takes place in the same location, it began over 100 years ago. This year the rodeo will take place July 19-25th.

It is definitely an arena and town rodeo enthusiasts should check out!

Out here with a little lamb and a whole lot of gratitude this Easter:

It’s a beautiful reminder of the Lamb who gave His life for us, bringing forgiveness, strength, and new beginnings. No matter the season, His love never changes.
He is risen.

Happy Easter,

Cyclone Stampede 2026

I can’t say enough good things about this weekend. This was the 63rd year of the Cyclone Stampede put on by the Rodeo Club at Iowa State University. This rodeo is part of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association in the Great Plains Region. Iowa State puts on the last student run rodeo in the nation.

Friday and Saturday I had the honor of queening beside Miss Cyclone Stampede 2025, Sophia Riccardi, and Miss Cyclone Stampede 2026, Kalyssa Herrold. I can’t thank these girls enough for welcoming me back to the arena that started my queen journey as Miss Cyclone Stampede in 2023. I signed autographs, carried flags, queen wave, pushed cattle and helped set barrels this weekend.

The large group photo shows the entire club and team at Iowa State University. While the team might be small the club makes up for it. They have passion, drive and dedication. This entire event was possible due to their hard work. The club does everything from set up, sorting cattle, stripping chute and concessions. It’s a huge undertaking, starting days before the first performance and lasting days after.

If you ever have the opportunity, be sure to attend the Cyclone Stampede in Ames, Iowa. It’s one I will attend for many years!
