đźš’ Right Place, Right Time: Training Turns into Action!

While conducting a weekly pre-plan review of a local high-hazard building this afternoon, your Voorhees Township Firefighters discovered a mulch fire extending into the rear of the building.

Great job to the crew on Squad 66 A Platoon for their situational awareness and quick transition from training to fire attack, stopping the fire spread and saving the business tens of thousands of dollars in damage.

⚡ Quick Facts:

The Save: Because your firefighters were already on-site for training, they were able to deploy a line and knock the fire down in seconds, preventing what could have been a major structure fire.

The Cause: Mulch fires are often caused by discarded smoking materials or spontaneous combustion in deep piles.

The Lesson: This is exactly why we "pre-plan." Knowing the terrain saved us—and this building—precious minutes today.

💡 Safety Tip for Home and Business Owners:
Keep mulch at least 18 inches away from combustible building materials (like wood siding or decks). Consider using non-combustible materials like rock or gravel in areas immediately adjacent to your foundation.

The freezing temperatures across South Jersey haven't stopped the work. Over the last several days, A, B, and C Platoons of the Voorhees Professional Firefighters Local 3249 have been out on the ice conducting intensive Ice Rescue Technician training.
Our crews have been rotating through real-world scenarios, practicing "go" rescues, sled deployments, and victim stabilization in sub-freezing water. By training across all three shifts, we ensure that no matter what time an emergency call comes in, a highly-skilled team is ready to respond.

⚠️ Important Ice Safety Tips
While we train to be ready for the worst, we want you to stay safe. Please keep these tips in mind before heading near local waterways:
• No Ice is 100% Safe: Changes in temperature, underwater currents, and snow cover can create "weak spots" that aren't visible from the surface.
• The "Reach-Throw-Row-Go" Rule: If you see someone fall through, do not run out onto the ice to help them. You will likely become a second victim. Instead:
• REACH with a long object (branch, pole).
• THROW a rope or flotation device.
• ROW a boat out if available.
• GO is for the professionals—call 911 immediately.
• Keep Pets Leashed: Many ice rescues begin when a dog runs onto thin ice. If your pet falls in, stay on the bank and call us.
• Dress for the Water, Not the Air: If you are skating or fishing, remember that cold water exhaustion happens in minutes.

From the early morning chill to the evening freeze, your Voorhees Firefighters are committed to maintaining the highest level of technical rescue proficiency.
Stay safe, stay off the ice, and know that Voorhees Firefighters are always standing by.

Help Us Help You, become a Hydrant Hero Today!❄️🚒 🦸‍♂️🦸‍♀️

When seconds count, we don't want to spend them digging. If there is a fire hydrant near your home or business, please take a few minutes to clear the snow around it.

The 3-Foot Rule:
•Clear a 3-foot radius around the hydrant.
•Clear a path from the hydrant to the street.
•Make sure the caps are visible and accessible.

Look out for your neighbors:
Do you have an elderly neighbor or someone with limited mobility living near a hydrant? Please consider taking a few extra minutes to shovel their hydrant out, too. That small act of kindness keeps the whole block safe.

Thank you for helping keep Voorhees Township safe this winter! 🌨️
