Fort Osage was the second U.S. The site, overlooking the bends and currents of the Missouri River, was first observed on June 23, 1804, by William Clark during the Voyage of Discovery as a likely spot for a fort. Clark wrote in his 1808 journal*, "Rose early examined the Situation and the points of a Small Island, which is opposite, found the River cou

ld be completely defended and Situation elegant, this Situation I had examined in the year 1804 and was delighted with it and am equally so now, ordered the Boats to be unloaded and tools got ready to work, and fixed on the spot for the fort and other buildings..."from the Journal of William Clark, On His Expedition to Establish Fort Osage, August 25 to September 22, 1808. During its nineteen years of existence, Fort Osage received explorers and dignitaries, trappers, traders, and the great Native American leaders. The first settlers in Jackson County came up the Missouri River to Sibley, where Lewis and Clark had established Fort Osage. Today's Fort is a reconstruction from original plans still in existence in Washington, D.C. Morrow was the organizing regent of Fort Osage Chapter DAR. The chapter's first meeting was held at the Johnson House in Sibley in 1947.

On October 17, 2024 we provided meal kit boxes to Harvesters.  This makes two days of service for our group this year!

In April we were honored to hear a program from the Honorary Consul for France, Mrs. Nathalie Zugazagoitia on the topic of the Allance de Francaise, of which she is a board member. She brought, Board Member of Alliance Francaise de Kansas City, Isabell Guglielmi who also spoke briefly. Vice Regent Kristy Main was awarded a certificate of appreciation for her computer work at the Missouri State DAR Convention's new online voting.

In March, we learned about the Medal of Honor Day planned by Ivan Stull, President of the Harry S Truman SAR Chapter to honor veterans. Bobbie Briegel presented two Good Citizens Certificates and cash awards to essay winners Sadie Lucas, Fort Osage High School and McKenah Sears, Grain Valley High School. Kristy Main presented the JROTC Bronze Medal and cash award to Mlondani Emoji. Contratulations to all these winners!

In November, 2023 we were delighted with Linda Sehrt's presentation of Ellen Hardin Walworth who was a lawyer, writer and activist. She was also related to Sehrt. Ellen Walworth was one of the founding members of the DAR. We also collected clothing for veterans with delivery to the VA Medical Center in Kansas City.

At the October 2023 meeting we enjoyed Margaret Clark's program. She is the Editor of Veteran's Voice Magazine, which seeks veterans poems and writings to publish in an effort to help them heal. For our Day of Service we filled boxes with quick and easy meal supplies to provide to Harvester's. Also Ann Bates spoke on her research for her patriot's grave.
