Thank you to everyone who joined us for our BBQ Cookout! It was a great day filled with good food, ice cream, games, and the opportunity to connect with our community.

One of the best parts of the day was seeing our officers and the kids having fun together through friendly games and activities. Events like these strengthen the partnership between our law enforcement and community that we are privileged to serve.

Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and helped make this event a success. We look forward to seeing you at our next community event!

Shrewsbury Borough Police Welcome New Officers

The Shrewsbury Borough Police Department is proud to welcome Patrolman John Chelston and Patrolman Keoni Leiter to our department. We congratulate both officers on reaching this important milestone and wish them safe, successful, and rewarding careers in law enforcement as they serve the residents of Shrewsbury Borough.

Patrolman John Chelston was raised in Brick, Ocean County, and is a graduate of the Ocean County Police Academy, where he received the Merit Award and earned recognition for achieving a perfect score in marksmanship. Before attending the police academy, he earned an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Ocean County College and later received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Kean University. Prior to joining the Shrewsbury Borough Police Department, Patrolman Chelston served as a full-time police officer with the Plumstead Township Police Department and previously served as a Class II Special Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO II) with the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department.

Patrolman Keoni Leiter was raised in Waretown, Ocean County, and is also a graduate of the Ocean County Police Academy. Before attending the academy, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from Sacred Heart University. Prior to his appointment as a full-time police officer with the Shrewsbury Borough Police Department, Patrolman Leiter served as a Class II Special Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO II) with the department beginning in January 2026, following his service as an SLEO II with the Long Beach Township Police Department.

Effective July 1st, New Jersey's new e-bike laws and regulations are in effect. These laws and regulations are implemented to improve safety motorists, pedestrians, and riders.

06.30.2026 - After 25 years of dedicated service, we would like to extend our sincerest congratulations to Lieutenant Jessica Boyd #31 on her retirement from the Shrewsbury Borough Police Department. Lieutenant Boyd built her career based on leadership, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to serving and protecting the residents of Shrewsbury Borough and Monmouth County.

In 2001, Lieutenant Boyd served in numerous roles during her time with the Shrewsbury Borough Police Department, serving as an Officer, Sergeant, and finally retiring at the rank of Lieutenant. During the earlier portion of her career as an Officer and Sergeant, Lieutenant Boyd was assigned to the patrol division, where she ensured the safety of Shrewsbury’s residents and engaged in community policing. As a Lieutenant, she assisted in ensuring day-to-day operations ran smoothly, along with being an advocate and voice for Women in Law Enforcement.

Lieutenant Boyd has represented the Shrewsbury Borough Police Department with Honor and Courage over her 25 years of service, and her presence in our Department will be greatly missed.

Today, the 43rd Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run came through the Borough of Shrewsbury.

Officers from the Shrewsbury Police Department & Tinton Falls Police Department proudly participated in the run while carrying the “Flame of Hope” supporting the athletes of the NJ Special Olympics.
