On May 16, the Shrewsbury Senior Center parking lot was awash in color. With hundreds of plants displayed on about a dozen tables, residents roamed selections of red, purple, and yellow flowers – with a variety of other available options.

The Iris Award

The Shrewsbury Garden Club has a long tradition of helping to beautify the community.

Through its Adopt-a-Garden program, residents and businesses maintain gardens and public spaces throughout town. In addition, Garden Club members care for several areas within Shrewsbury themselves.

The idea of recognizing residents who take pride in enhancing the beauty of the community was inspired by past club president Gail Aslanian.

“Driving through the community, I see so many lovely landscapes and gardens that I thought it would be nice for the club to recognize these individuals who have taken pride in making the town look beautiful,” she remarked.
