Early research has uncovered new potential in the fight against diffuse midline glioma (DMG), a rare and aggressive childhood brain tumor. 💪
Scientists at MIT recently achieved a breakthrough by synthesizing verticillin A – a natural fungal compound with known anticancer properties – unlocking new possibilities to study and refine in the lab.
With support from St. Baldrick’s, Dr. Jun Qi at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is now testing these newly developed verticillin derivatives against DMG cell lines, with promising early results. 🙏
Next steps include understanding how these compounds work at the molecular level and advancing toward testing in pediatric brain cancer models.
It's still early, but discoveries like this bring hope for better, more targeted treatments for kids facing brain tumors.
