Scout Troop 4 Shrewsbury Scouting America Troop 4 is a vibrant troop in Shrewsbury, MA. Scout led, we focus on skills, leadership, advancement and FUN.

This past weekend, Troop 4 Scouts and adult leaders headed west to Charlemont for an overnight at Zoar Outdoor, capping off a camping experience on Friday with a guided whitewater run down the Deerfield River on Saturday. The river delivered, and watching our Scouts put real paddling skills to work through the rapids, supporting each other every stroke of the way, made for a memorable outing and weekend!

Congratulations to Troop 4's newest Eagle Scout, Rowen Bukow!

At his Board of Review, Rowen did an outstanding job describing his path to Eagle and the experiences that shaped him along the way, including the leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills he developed throughout his Scouting journey. He spoke about the influence of his first Patrol Leader, and how that experience instilled in him a desire to share his knowledge and skills with others so they could grow and progress as Scouts.

That commitment to helping others led directly to his Eagle project, where he built compost bins and raised garden beds at his church's gardening club, ensuring that members with mobility challenges could continue to enjoy the experience of gardening. He also reflected on how earning his religious awards deepened his relationship with God and shaped the way he engages with those around him.

Thanks to all the adult leaders who coached and mentored Rowen on his path, and to the older Scouts who modeled what leadership looks like, and to the younger Scouts who gave him the opportunity to practice and develop his own leadership style. A special congratulations to his parents, Jim and Kathlyn Bukow, who are valued adult leaders in the troop and have supported Rowen every step of the way on this journey.

Congratulations again to Rowen and his family on this remarkable achievement. We can't wait to see what he does next!

This weekend, Troop 4 took part in the ceremonies around town, honoring our fallen heroes. On Saturday, we joined other scouting organizations at Mountain View Cemetery, placing honor flags. Then we joined civic organizations and scouts in our Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance. Thank you to the Shrewsbury Recreation Department and our town officials for the opportunity to be of service!

Congratulations to Troop 4's newest Eagle Scout, James Switzer!

At his Board of Review, James did a wonderful job describing his journey from Lion to Eagle, sharing fond memories of friendships built, skills learned, and adventures along the way, including Sea Base and the bike and fish trip. He spoke about his desire to follow in the footsteps of his Den Chief and Patrol Leader, Eric Silva, by being a strong role model and leader for the Scouts who come after him.

Thanks to all the Scouts who supported James on his path, and to the dedicated adult leaders who generously shared their time, experience, and guidance with him. A special congratulations to Dr. and Mrs. Switzer, who are valued leaders in the troop in their own right, and have supported James every step of the way on this journey. We can't wait to see what James accomplishes next, both within the troop and beyond.

Troop 4 hit the trails last weekend for an overnight backpacking trip at Camp Wanocksett! Scouts set up camp, built campfires, and competed patrol vs. patrol before earning every bite of a dinner enjoyed outdoors. A great weekend in the woods — and there's always room for more Scouts and adult leaders to join the fun!

Congratulations to Troop 4's latest Eagle Scout, Dustin Fahey! Dustin did a wonderful job describing the role of Scouts in his life, the benefits of developing leadership skills, memorable trips like sailing in the Florida Keys on a Sea Base High Adventure, and the time spent with friends. He highlighted how the path to Eagle helped him develop the leadership skill of delegating, particularly meaningful for someone who tends to lead by example in both Scouts and sports.

He thanked the previous Senior Patrol Leaders and senior Scouts who guided him along the way and demonstrated what good leadership and being a strong role model are all about. Many thanks to all the Scouts who helped with his Eagle project, building scoreboards for the town lacrosse league, and to the adult leaders who coached and mentored him. Congratulations as well to his parents, who have supported Dustin in his journey during these Scouting years!
