Worcester, MA - May peace descend upon you, sweet one. We're heartbroken that we couldn't save this majestic red-tailed hawk, whose spirit was strong yet fragile. The police officer kindly informed us of their expected arrival time, and we waited attentively. With care, we wrapped her in a blanket after gently unfolding her wing to assess the extensive, deep wound that sadly exposed her muscles. The injury was severe and painful. She transitioned shortly after she arrived. Our hearts were set on helping her heal and return to the wild. Instead, she'll find eternal rest in our memorial garden later this morning. Wishing you a serene journey across the rainbow bridge. Thank you Worcester Police Department (Official) for assisting.

Triumphant Return to the Wild! We've successfully nursed a juvenile great horned owl back to health, treating its minor abrasions and dehydration, and rejoicing as it's reunited with its parents and 2 siblings in the wild! Previously, a massive amount of soccer netting had entangled its head, neck, wings, and body, posing a dire threat. We're deeply grateful to everyone who lent a helping hand in this remarkable rescue, giving this young owl a second chance at life. Let's take a vital step forward by dismantling sports netting when not in use to prevent unnecessary fatalities and give wildlife the protection they deserve! 🚨 An update regarding the Southborough Great Horned Owl: after becoming entangled in a soccer net for hours, the owl has thankfully escaped without serious injuries. Typically, such incidents can lead to severe constriction injuries and feather damage from fighting to free itself. We are delighted to report that the owl is currently in good condition, eating well, and using its formidable talons effectively (what we refer to as murder mittens!) Please remove all sports netting when not in use! Southborough Police Department

Southborough, MA - Late tonight, we successfully freed a young great horned owl that had become entangled in soccer netting. The owl was discovered at a local school, prompting a collaborative effort among concerned individuals. We would like to extend our gratitude to Lazuka's Landing Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation for coordinating volunteer efforts, which included cutting a substantial section of the netting and transporting the owl to our facility. This approach was chosen to ensure the owl's safety and minimize risk to the volunteers, given the delicate and dangerous nature of the removal process. We appreciate the dedication of our fellow rescue partner, volunteers, and the individual who reported the incident, advocating for the owl's well-being. Upon examination, we were astonished by the extensive amount of netting that had to be removed from the owl. This incident highlights the importance of dismantling netting when not in use.

On National Eagle Day, we wanted to ensure we honored this significant occasion. Our organization has previously delivered rehabilitative care to the Bald Eagle patients highlighted below. Today commemorates the day in 1782 when the bald eagle was officially chosen as the national symbol of the United States, while also celebrating the species' remarkable recovery from near extinction. Our dedicated team of volunteers feel privileged to work alongside these birds and are proud to offer medical care when necessary. Remember to show compassion toward wildlife.

Mass Pike in Hopkinton, MA - We recently received an injured adult female red-tailed hawk from the Massachusetts State Police. Trooper Hernandez responded to a call of an injured hawk unable to fly in the median of the Mass Pike. Trooper Hernandez used her jacket to capture the hawk and transported it to us. The hawk was likely struck by a vehicle. Upon initial examination, we found the hawk to be suffering from head and ocular trauma. It is responding well to supportive care and her eye is already improving. We want to send our thanks to Trooper Hernandez for saving this hawk's life, as she would not have survived much longer with highway traffic around her. We are happy to report that the hawk is already making great strides in her recovery process!

Shrewsbury, MA - A compassionate community sprang into action to rescue a baby red-tailed hawk poisoned by rodenticide. We received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a hawk in a yard. The young bird, was bleeding visibly, as confirmed by photos. Despite its struggles, the hawk traversed several yards, landing on cars. By the time we arrived, it had sought refuge on a high rooftop, having traveled from a car to a garage. We observed a parent hawk repeatedly swooping in to care for its young, but unfortunately, we couldn't contain the bird last night. A trail of blood led us to realize time was of the essence. We left our contact information with neighbors, asking them to reach out when the hawk came down. Early this morning, several neighbors alerted us that the hawk had descended once more. With their assistance, we guided them through placing a laundry bin over the bird, and we quickly arrived on the scene. The hawk was still bleeding profusely and showed signs of severe distress. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible neighbors who collaborated to get this bird the urgent care it needed. Unbeknownst to the parent hawks, the food they fed their young was tainted with rodent poison. NEVER use rodenticides! This little one was on the brink of disaster, and all we could do was wait anxiously. Our hearts are now full knowing the hawk is safe and receiving treatment to counteract the blood clotting issue. If you're struggling with rodents, please don't hesitate to reach out for advice.

🚨Tomorrow, the House of Representatives is taking up the Mass Ready Act, and Amendment #10 would phase out the use of anticoagulant rodenticides statewide please take action here: https://bit.ly/sgarvote?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExNWVJWFIzZlVBN3kzcDVmYXNydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR7dfUk2fDxcHyHOrpkODFAyqsddcURkg1puyQjkWoAUl7NSDPG7JZyxDqg8YQ_aem_zXduP8CZXvDrEBsrm_-cBg.

The Red-tailed Hawk named Buddy has suffered a gunshot wound. Recent radiographs revealed a metal projectile fracturing the ulna bone in one of his wings. Fortunately, surgery was deemed unnecessary after the projectile was removed and the wound was cleaned under sedation. Buddy's wing has been wrapped, and he is currently in stable condition. We extend our gratitude to the Wildlife Clinic for their exceptional care and treatment. Authorities have been notified and are working to investigate this heinous offense. It is imperative to note that harming a federally protected bird is strictly prohibited and punishable by law.
