Domestic Violence is NOT A COUPLES PROBLEM. Couples counseling when someone is being abused in the relationship can cause way more harm than good.

During our last meeting, our taskforce had the opportunity to complete the “In Her Shoes” training founded by the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence. “In Her Shoes” is a wonderful community education tool designed for learning about domestic violence. Participants move, do, think and experience the lives and real stories of battered women. Our taskforce is comprised of a multitude of community and professional groups that work directly with survivors of domestic violence. Each member was able to follow the specific story of a survivor.

“First released in 2000, over 20 years have passed since these stories first came to life. Participants continue to tell us that the experience of In Her Shoes has stayed with them long after they’ve put the cards down and left the stations behind them. It has led individual participants and whole communities to shift their thinking about domestic violence and evolve their practices around what it really means to support survivors, hold those who cause harm accountable, and envision a world where violence and abuse don’t flourish as they do now.” -Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence 2025

If your community organization, professional group, office, etc. is interested in receiving this training, the Caddo Bossier Domestic Violence Taskforce can provide it! More information regarding this can be found by contacting our executive board at [email protected] or [email protected]

This (and every day), we're grateful for the labor of domestic violence advocates supporting survivors across the country. Many of these advocates are also survivors themselves. 🧡

Advocates deserve to do their jobs safely and sustainably, with adequate funding and resources. Share this post to help us today!
