Continuing down the Road to Holy Convocation, we want to highlight some ecumenical Christian history, to show that what we do is in alignment with God's will and has also been performed throughout the faith's nearly 2,000 years of existence.
Historically, the Roman Catholic Church with whom we disagree with on many things (especially papal supremacy) and other ancient churches and traditions have appointed, ordained and consecrated, and enthroned bishops under the age of 30. The requirements for the ages of 30-35, contrary to some beliefs, was never universally established in the early Universal Church.
There were bishops, some as young as the controversial age of 5, who were seated in the Lord's Holy Church through these different branches in the Body of Christ. As of today in Pilgrim Assemblies International, a bishop was elevated before the age of 30.
Yet, a lesser-known historical fact is that we have likewise elevated a bishop at the age of 26, and we assisted in sending him off to serve as a permanent missionary in Latin America since December 2025 after three years of spiritual preparation and discernment (and he was no longer brought in as a dually-aligned affiliate, rather, an official, incardinated member after many years and discussions with the involvement of Archbishop Thomas Henry, Jr., JCD, DD).
On September 5, 2025, Bishop Bernard Kimble, PhD, assisted by Bishops John Taylor III, MDiv, Jerry Davis, and Eddie Williams, regularized and conditionally ordained and consecrated Bishop Auriel Jones Barbosa, ThD (honoris causa) at the age of 26—the same age that the Late Metropolitan Archbishop J. Delano Ellis, II was consecrated as a bishop in the Lord's Church.
He was also enthroned over his administratively independent jurisdiction which has been continually connected to our fellowship in the BKIM Joint Synod for accountability, ecumenism, and greater missionary cooperation across denominational lines.
This young man of the cloth has served in capacity as the Episcopal Advisor, Interim Dean of the College of Bishops and Apostles, and an instructor for BKIM Fellowship of Covenant Churches. He also assisted us in developing our web presence, gave prophetic instruction to several on church administration and development, and has continued to encourage the youth and young adults that with God and much-needed maturity, all things are possible. Additionally, he has assisted our International Presiding Prelate with formalizing and standardizing governing documentation and credentials throughout the years.
While he is still young and growing, he has shown himself to be more dependable than many would give as a judgment; and he has shown himself to be a young man that has grown and continues to grow into his God-given purpose.
