Happy 250th, America!

The Kansas City Southern Historical Society would like to wish everyone a happy Independence Day, and what better way than to with a historical photo!

During the Annual KCSHS 2026 Convention in DeQuincy, Louisiana, the KCS 776, an ET44AC was generously placed on display by CPKC.

As the display came to an end, the local L18 power arrived to pick up the locomotive. In the consist was non-other than KCS 3205, or formerly, KCS 642.

642 has the distinction of being one of KCS’ two “Bicentennial” locomotives done up for the company in 1976. Though an unorthodox scheme, they were designed by Shreveport school children.

In 2026, a small moment of significance occurred when a 250th and 200th celebratory locomotive would join up for a brief run to Leesville. The KCS 776 would couple directly onto the 3205 or “642” for this run.

Last weekend, one of our America 250 locomotives was on display at the Kansas City Southern Historical Society's annual conference in DeQuincy, Louisiana, for local rail fans to see up close.

Whether pulling freight across the U.S. Midwest, or spotted at special rail heritage events in places from Minnesota to Louisiana, our America 250 locomotives bring a piece of living history to every community they pass through.

Convention 2026 is a wrap!

Thanks to everybody that came out to visit and be a part of another great event.

Thanks to the DeRidder Beauregard Museum for hosting our group and annual picnic lunch!

Saturday night’s event had great food, a photo presentation by Albert Pfeiffer, and CPKC’s Jeff Terry, who gave an excellent lecture on Harvey Couch, the L&A, and how he shaped the modern KCS in the 1930s and 1940s.

A very special thank you to our hosts, the DeQuincy Railroad Museum, and CPKC, for allowing the 776 to be displayed during our visit.
