What a beautiful evening of connection, collaboration, and community.
On Friday, Birth Well Shreveport had the honor of hosting the Black Birth Matters Pre-Summit Mixer: Shreveport Community Conversations. We were excited to gather local birth workers, advocates, healthcare professionals, and community leaders ahead of next week’s main event.
A very special thank you to Birth Mark Doulas for bringing this opportunity to Shreveport and covering everything to make this gathering possible. Your commitment to Black maternal health and building stronger birth communities is deeply appreciated.
Our founder and director, Alicia, facilitated the evening by reminding us:
“Tonight is about connection over competition, relationship-building, and honoring the work each of us brings into this community.”
Through guided networking and intentional conversations, attendees shared what first called them into birth work, the parts of this work that feel most meaningful, and the gaps families are still experiencing in our community. Together, we explored the resources that are hardest to access, where birth workers need more support, and the collaborations still needed to better serve mothers and families.
Most importantly, the room was filled with laughter, peace, grounding, honesty, and genuine connection. New relationships were formed, stories were shared, and community was strengthened.
We are incredibly grateful for everyone who showed up, collaborated, poured into the space, and helped make this evening so special. Birth work can be heavy, but moments like this remind us that we are not doing this work alone.
We are honored to have been chosen as a host site and so grateful that Black Birth Matters made it to Shreveport.
