from POLA'S mom....

My name is Pola and so far I've had three different journeys in life. The first one began about five years ago in Florida when a lady said she would take care of me. I'm not sure what I did because I was a puppy but she didn't like me anymore, so she packed her things and moved away without me. Although I was only six months old, had no food or a place to call home, I knew I had to be strong. I roamed the streets and ran away from every stranger that came my way because I didn't trust them and because I'm a very fast runner. Then, a hot summer afternoon, another lady and her dog approached me. I trust dogs, so I let them convince me to come with them but then the lady said they couldn't keep me but they would take me "home". On the way back to the address on my tag, I recognized a man who tried to catch me a few days earlier. He was my Dad and he would be the one to take me Home. That's when my second journey began! I met Mom and she fell head over heels for me, I also met my brother who became my best friend. After nursing me back to health, we had amazing times together every single day. My favorite things to do included running around the backyard with my brother, fetching my bouncy ball, riding in the car with Mom, eating bananas with Dad, and sunbathing under the Florida sun. We then moved away because Mom got a job offer in Texas, where the fun continued because I had a backyard for running and sunbathing, my parents packed my toys, and they also sell bananas there, so I was all set. The best thing of all is that this time the move included me! To celebrate my parents' anniversary, we all went on a family road trip back to Florida. Road trips are my favorite and I was going to see my family there, so I was ready to go! As we were driving through Louisiana, we were suddenly struck by a distracted driver. After the car stopped spinning, I realized I couldn't feel or move my legs anymore. Mom pulled me out of the car and gave me to a wonderful lady who promised to take care of me and my brother while Mom and Dad went to the hospital, and she did. So many other kind people got together and they all tried to help me out so that I could keep running and living my life but it was not to be because a new journey was about to begin. My third and final journey began when I felt my legs again running across the Rainbow Bridge and it was great! I watch over my family from here, I also watch over other dogs who have had a tough life and need to feel the love that I felt when my family found me. There's nothing like a second chance at life and that's what I wish for all dogs who don't know what Home is... yet.

Thank you so much for helping our sweet Daisy

Sweet Daisy needs some veterinary care. She has become weak in her back legs & needs bloodwork & xrays to determine the extent of her injuries & the best treatment option. The wonderful folks at POLA Foundation are caring for Daisy, and Winnie's Way is blessed to be able to provide this beautiful girl with a one of our Wee-Grants! Prayers for this sweet girl! 🐶❤️

🆘WE NEED YOUR HELP FOR
DAISY AND HANK

Some of you may remember Daisy’s story. She came to the rescue in March 2017 as a very sick, four-month-old puppy and was adopted in July 2018.

In 2024, I began seeing posts on Facebook saying Daisy and her brother, Hank, were running the streets. They were posted again in December, and when their owner didn’t come to get them, I went and brought them both to safety.

Daisy is now 9, and Hank is around 13. They’re bonded and have lived together for eight years; they don’t do well apart. Hank has hip problems and takes daily medication, and Daisy has arthritis.

About a month ago, Daisy started having trouble getting up. I thought it might be her arthritis and gave her medication, but she’s gotten worse. She began knuckling one back paw, and this week she has become weak in both back legs. Because Daisy is a shepherd mix, I’m very worried she could have degenerative myelopathy (DM). Our rescue had a dog named Missy with DM, and it was heartbreaking. There is no cure.

Daisy needs to see a veterinarian, likely for bloodwork and X-rays. Hank also needs an appointment to refill his medication. We still have seven dogs in our care, and we’re committed to looking after every one of them— we could really use your help with these veterinary costs.

If you’re able to donate
💙our PayPal is [email protected]. If you need another way to give, please message us and we’ll work it out.

I’m attaching links to Daisy’s story from 2016 and to Missy’s story.

Hey y’all! ❤️

It’s been a while, but we’re still here, navigating this crazy world with our POLA babies. 🐾

We’re starting something new on our page and will be sharing posts, events, and information from other organizations that are doing great work in our community.

We’re still out there helping with lost and found dogs, as well as dogs in need. That part hasn’t changed. 🐶❤️

We still have 7 POLA babies who we will continue to provide for. These babies are older, have medical needs, or have behavioral issues that make them unavailable for adoption. They may not be adoptable, but we made a commitment to them, and we will continue to take care of them for the rest of their lives. ❤️

That means continuing to provide:
🐾 Vaccinations
🐾 Heartworm prevention
🐾 Flea prevention
🐾 Medications
🐾 Veterinary care when needed

A few of our babies are getting close to needing their vaccinations updated. We used to purchase 25 at a time, but I recently found a reputable company that sells them in packs of 10. The total cost will be $140. That will cover all 7 of our babies, and we’ll be able to donate the remaining 3 to someone else who needs them. ❤️

We also spend around $120 each month on heartworm and flea prevention for our 7 babies.

Two of our babies are currently on medication. Thankfully, their medication is only about $30 for a 90-day supply, but they will need to return to the vet in order to continue receiving it.

We have been using funds that were donated to us previously, but those funds are now about depleted.

If anyone feels like they would like to help our POLA babies, we would appreciate it so, so much. Every little bit helps us continue keeping these babies safe, healthy, and loved. ❤️🐾

And don’t forget — we’ll be at PAWS IN THE PARK on October 10th at the American Legion at Cross Lake! 🐶🐾

Be sure to come out and see us! It’s going to be a fun-filled day with rescues, food trucks, vendors, and lots of activities for the kids, too! ❤️

And just a note: If anyone ever has questions about anything POLA is doing, please reach out to me directly. I’m always happy to answer questions and explain what we’re doing.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for continuing to support us, stick with us through this transition, and care about our POLA babies. We truly couldn’t do this without you. ❤️🐾

Update: ADOPTED!!

BONDED PAIR! Cookie and Candy came to the shelter with no names. The story is that the wife passed away and the husband wanted them gone. No names... no ages... no vetting. These girls are so scared. They need someone who understands dogs like these who have not had the best life. It appears they may have been living a lot of their time in a kennel as they both have urine burns and skin irritation. Until they are comfortable in their new home, they would be a FLIGHT RISK so they need someone that will KEEP THEM SAFE and contained. Anyone that knows Chihuahuas, knows they don't do well in a shelter environment but once they are in a home and feel safe, they bond quickly to whomever is caring for and kind to them. Cookie is not as scared as Candy and Candy looks to Cookie for comfort. Ask BCAC about their foster-to-adopt program!

NO CHILDREN! These girls don't need the chaos of a home with a lot of commotion.
