ABOUT THE RED RIVER REVEL
Red River Revel is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the region around Shreveport, Louisiana with cultural programming in the areas of “Art, Music, Food.” Program events include Shreveport Farmers’ Market, CORK: A Red River Revel Wine Event, and the Red River Revel Arts Festival. Created in 1976, the Red River Revel is a multi-day annual arts festival bringing to

gether visual, musical, and performing artists, along with the regional community for a celebration of the arts. The Red River Revel is a community partner with local nonprofits, over 20 of which serve food and raise funds using the unique blend of culturally inspired flavors of the area and beyond. Each year during the festival, thousands of area 4th grade students spend the school day at the Red River Revel learning about and participating in arts education programs. Local, regional, and national musical acts perform on two stages in Shreveport’s Festival Plaza during the event. Approximately 100,000 visitors from all over the country visit the Red River Revel Arts Festival each year. This “Celebration of the Arts” encompasses quality in visual and performing arts, seminars, workshops, children's arts education, and a variety of creative experiences. In addition to the festival, the organization manages the 13-week Shreveport Farmers’ Market, held weekly on Saturdays during the Summer. The Red River Revel also produces CORK: A Red River Revel Wine Event, an annual celebration of wine and food, which serves as a fundraising event held at Festival Plaza each Spring. From the very beginning with The Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier, Inc. to the Festival Production Committee, from the Shreve Memorial Library Foundation to the hundreds of high schools students, community members, nonprofit organizations, and local businesses...volunteerism has given us all a great gift and we couldn't agree with this spirit of this article more!

Everyday acts of service can help rebuild American belonging and well-being.

50 Years of Revel: The Revel's own sailor-suited mascot, Captain Red, made his rounds through the downtown riverfront and is shown here in 1979, posing for photos with young Revelers by the fountain. Captain Red was a staple for the early days of the festival, which was held on Clyde Fant Parkway as well as in and around the Barnwell Center.

The American Tragedy x Shreveport Symphony Orchestra

Almost exactly 20 years later, the 2000's rock group that defined a generation of music in the Ark-La-Tex will join forces with Louisiana's oldest continually performing musical group (est. 1948) on the main stage at the 50th Red River Revel Arts Festival.

50 Years of Revel: Rock and roll royalty came through Shreveport in 1991, when piano legend Leon Russell played the Revel stage. It's the kind of booking that's become a hallmark of the festival: national acts, right here, close enough that your kids can say they saw a legend play live.

50 Years of Revel: In 1993, festivalgoers of all ages picked up tile and grout to build a mosaic mural in the Red River District, proof that the Revel has always treated art as something you make, not just something you look at. That same spirit lives on in today's children's art education programming, where the next generation gets their hands just as messy.

50 Years of Revel: In 1979, Louisiana humorist and cook Justin Wilson pulled a crowd into the demo with nothing more than a skillet, a story, and that unmistakable Cajun drawl. Justin didn't just cook onstage...he narrated, joked, and turned a simple demonstration into full-blown entertainment, the kind Revelers still talk about decades later. Long before food festivals were a trend, the Revel was already serving up Louisiana culture on a plate.
