Louisiana Association for the Blind A shining light in NWLA for people with visual impairment - providing training, services & employment Excellence in all that we do is our goal.

Established in 1927, Louisiana Association for the Blind (LAB) is a private non-profit 501(c)(3) organization providing stable employment, vocational training and rehabilitative services to individuals who are blind and visually impaired in Louisiana. LAB's core values of respect for individual abilities, honesty, and integrity create an environment that encourages personal growth and independence. At LAB our focus is on a person's capabilities not disabilities. Quality is the end result: in products, in training, and in employment opportunities. LAB employs people who are blind in manufacturing, administrative, training and a variety of job positions that match an individual's goals and potential. The Javits-Wagner-O'Day Act (JWOD) allows LAB and other agencies employing the blind to secure contracts to provide products and services to the Federal government. The JWOD program helps to ensure steady, long-term employment for people who are blind. LAB is a member of the National Association for Employment of People Who are Blind (NAEPB) and affiliated with National Industries for the Blind (NIB). Additionally, LAB is licensed by the Department of Social Services and recognized by Louisiana Rehabilitation Services as a rehabilitative facility. For more information about LAB, please call 1-877-913-6471.

Happy White Cane Awareness Day!

🦯 The white cane is more than a mobility tool- for many people who are blind or visually impaired, a white cane represents independence, confidence, and the freedom to navigate the world on their own terms.

This Blindness Awareness Month, take a moment to learn about the tools and resources that help people with vision loss live independently.

And remember: if you see someone using a white cane, give them the space and respect they need to navigate safely!

👁️🌎 Happy World Sight Day!

Today, we’re shining a light on something we often take for granted: the gift of sight.

World Sight Day is a reminder of the importance of eye health, regular eye exams, early detection, and access to vision care. It’s also an opportunity to recognize the millions of people around the world living with blindness and vision impairment.

At L.A.B., we believe that everyone deserves access to the resources, services, and support they need to live an independent and fulfilling life.

This World Sight Day, take a moment to prioritize your eye health—and help us spread awareness about the importance of vision care.

Yesterday, the Louisiana Association for the Blind was proud to participate in the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce’s “Why the Hole Not” Golf Tournament!

Three members of our team took to the course, while we were proud to sponsor Hole 15.

Thank you Micheal, Shun, and Justin for representing L.A.B. on the green!

We appreciate opportunities like these to connect with our community, support our local business partners, and enjoy a great day on the course.

Thank you to the Shreveport Chamber for hosting a wonderful tournament. We’re always glad to be part of events that bring our community together! ⛳️

🩷 Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🩷

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month — a time to honor survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and stand alongside the many individuals and families whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer.

At the Louisiana Association for the Blind, we believe in supporting independence, dignity, and quality of life for everyone in our community. This month, we’re proud to help spread awareness and encourage conversations that can make a difference.

Take a moment to check in with the women you love, encourage regular screenings, and show your support for those affected by breast cancer. 💗
