SHIP at LSU Health Shreveport

SHIP at LSU Health Shreveport S.H.I.P. is committed to improving the quality of life of underprivileged populations throughout the world. Every year since its inception in 2009, S.H.I.P.

is a grassroots non-profit 501(c)3 organization based in Shreveport, LA. Our mission focuses on improving the health of underserved populations without discrimination. has travelled to remote regions of Kenya to provide medical care and education to those in need through a mobile medical clinic ran entirely by medical student and physician volunteers. Over the years, we have taken up to 25 medical

students, residents, and faculty who have treated over 100 patients per day with a broad spectrum of ailments including generalized aches and pains to chronic infections not commonly seen in the United States. Furthermore, we locally continue to organize and volunteer in local health fairs and administer our Pre-Medical Workshop, which has and will continue to encourage undergraduate students to pursue their medical education and career here in Shreveport.

What an amazing turnout for Premed Day this year!! We had a packed house!

High school and college students from across the state came to get a glimpse of medical school, received hands on experience with several procedures, and got to hear from current medical students and one of our rheumatologists, Dr. Umer! This group is going to do great things!

Shoutout to for a wonderful weekend

¡Hola from Roatán, Honduras!

As soon as SHIP members learned we could not travel to Kenya this year, we jumped into action to plan another trip! Now, a group of 4th year medical students, residents, and attendings are currently spending 2 weeks treating patients in the underserved communities of Honduras.

We are grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to see our relationship with the people of Roatán flourish!
