There’s something special that happens when we come together to keep traditions alive. Our amazing volunteers spent the day peeling, slicing and preparing fresh peaches for preserving, sharing laughter, stories and generations of knowledge along the way.

A special thank you to Wilma Harris, Christella Jackson, Ora Evans, Earnestine Allen and Jewel Brown for their hard work preparing the peaches. Your time, dedication and teamwork help keep this treasured tradition alive for future generations.

Thank you to everyone who lends a helping hand and makes our community stronger.

We hosted our first Veterans Bingo Social in June. This event was designed to bring together veterans and their families for an afternoon of fellowship, fun and appreciation.

A special thank you to Cattina Williams, Assistant Director of Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation and a U.S. Army Military Police veteran, for serving as our enthusiastic bingo caller. We also appreciate Hilton Wells, Overton Brooks Community Engagement & Partnership Coordinator for joining us and supporting this special event.

Congratulations to Veteran Joseph Tillman, who was all smiles as he selected his prize after winning during the bingo games!

We are grateful to all of the veterans and families who attended and helped make this inaugural event a success. We look forward to creating even more opportunities to honor and celebrate those who have served our country.

This week our community came together for an impactful ASIST (Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training) workshop hosted at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Neighborhood Association Center in partnership with Andy & Angela with Save Cenla.

Participants from all walks of life gathered to learn practical su***de intervention skills, engage in meaningful conversations and strengthen their ability to support those who may be struggling. This life-saving training equipped attendees with tools to recognize when someone may be at risk and how to respond with compassion, confidence and care.

We are grateful to everyone who participated, facilitated and supported this important event. Together, we continue building a stronger, more informed and more compassionate community.

Su***de prevention is everyone’s business and one conversation can truly save a life.

A King’s View

Students in the Through Their Eyes photography program had the opportunity to explore creativity while learning the art of storytelling through photography. This special program was brought to our community through a partnership with Caddo Parks and Recreation and BD Photography.

Moments like these remind us that when young people are given the tools to create, their vision can inspire an entire community.

The MLK Community Center would like to celebrate all mothers, grandmothers, bonus moms, aunties and mother figures. Thank you for the love, strength, wisdom and sacrifices you pour into your families and communities every single day.

Last week, we were blessed to celebrate the amazing women in our community during our Mother’s Day event filled with laughter, fellowship, food and beautiful memories.

This special event was made possible through a partnership with the Loyal Brothers Association and we are truly grateful for the continued support shown to our community.

One of the sweetest moments of the day was seeing our little photographer, Nelaj, in action capturing smiles all around the room. Nelaj will be turning 5 on May 29th and we want to wish her a very Happy Early Birthday! Thank you for helping us capture such beautiful memories on this special day. 🎂 🩷

We believe mothers should be celebrated every day, not just one Sunday out of the year. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make the event so special!

Creativity was in full focus as students in the Through Their Eyes Photography Program explored the world through their cameras during one of their photography assignments. From capturing nature to noticing the small details around them, these young photographers showcased their creativity, curiosity and talent through their own unique perspective.

The program was sponsored by Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation and the MLK Community Center, with classes taught by Bennie Dotie. We loved seeing our youth build confidence, creativity and new skills behind the camera.

We love seeing our youth shine. Through Their Eyes was an amazing program and we’re proud to have hosted it at the MLK Community Center. Thank you to Bennie Dotie, owner of BD Photography, our students and parents for making it such a success.

Special thanks to Big M Events for feeding our kids on the final day of this amazing workshop.
