This week our community came together for an impactful ASIST (Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training) workshop hosted at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Neighborhood Association Center in partnership with Andy & Angela with Save Cenla.

Participants from all walks of life gathered to learn practical su***de intervention skills, engage in meaningful conversations and strengthen their ability to support those who may be struggling. This life-saving training equipped attendees with tools to recognize when someone may be at risk and how to respond with compassion, confidence and care.

We are grateful to everyone who participated, facilitated and supported this important event. Together, we continue building a stronger, more informed and more compassionate community.

Su***de prevention is everyone’s business and one conversation can truly save a life.

A King’s View

Students in the Through Their Eyes photography program had the opportunity to explore creativity while learning the art of storytelling through photography. This special program was brought to our community through a partnership with Caddo Parks and Recreation and BD Photography.

Moments like these remind us that when young people are given the tools to create, their vision can inspire an entire community.

The MLK Community Center would like to celebrate all mothers, grandmothers, bonus moms, aunties and mother figures. Thank you for the love, strength, wisdom and sacrifices you pour into your families and communities every single day.

Last week, we were blessed to celebrate the amazing women in our community during our Mother’s Day event filled with laughter, fellowship, food and beautiful memories.

This special event was made possible through a partnership with the Loyal Brothers Association and we are truly grateful for the continued support shown to our community.

One of the sweetest moments of the day was seeing our little photographer, Nelaj, in action capturing smiles all around the room. Nelaj will be turning 5 on May 29th and we want to wish her a very Happy Early Birthday! Thank you for helping us capture such beautiful memories on this special day. 🎂 🩷

We believe mothers should be celebrated every day, not just one Sunday out of the year. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make the event so special!

Creativity was in full focus as students in the Through Their Eyes Photography Program explored the world through their cameras during one of their photography assignments. From capturing nature to noticing the small details around them, these young photographers showcased their creativity, curiosity and talent through their own unique perspective.

The program was sponsored by Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation and the MLK Community Center, with classes taught by Bennie Dotie. We loved seeing our youth build confidence, creativity and new skills behind the camera.

It’s always a Good Friday at the MLK Community Center.

Every Friday, our community comes together for Bible study led by Mr. Russell where wisdom is shared, hearts are filled and fellowship grows stronger. From flipping through the Word to meaningful conversations and plenty of smiles, it’s more than just a study it’s family.

We are all grateful for these moments of faith, connection and love in our community.

Nothing but joy, laughter and a little friendly competition at the MLK Community Center.

Gwen was in her element calling bingo and keeping everyone on their toes. From focused faces to big smiles, our seniors showed up ready to play and enjoy each other’s company.

Moments like these remind us what community is all about connection, fun and making memories together.

Thank you Gwen, for bringing the energy and keeping the game going strong.

What a beautiful and spirit-filled celebration as we honored one year of lifting our voices in praise. From powerful songs to heartfelt fellowship, the MLK Community Center Choir Anniversary was truly a blessing to witness.

We are so proud of this incredible group and grateful for every voice, every note and every moment shared in unity and worship.

Here’s to many more years of singing praises and touching hearts!
