Please take 5 minutes today to help us advocate for mountain bike trails at Havenwoods State Forest, just 6 miles from Shorewood.

What we need you to do:
1. Review the SCORP page: https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/fl/PropertyPlanning/Scorp
2. Complete the online input form and emphasize the importance of mountain bike trail expansion: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ZMG3KLT

Got a little writer’s block or short on time? Our friends at Metro Mountain Bikers have created a summary of information to consider using.

Question 1: We suggest entering “Participation rates, equitable distribution of opportunities, and expand the number and diversity of people participating in outdoor recreation by ensuring opportunities are available close to home.” You are welcome to enter other content as well.

Question 2: We suggest entering “None” or a specific answer if you have one

Question 4: We suggest checking “Places to go are too far away” and “Places to go are too crowded or overused” in addition to any other options you feel are appropriate for you.

Question 6: We suggest selecting “Strongly Support” for “Ensure the equitable distribution of opportunities” and “Expand the number and diversity of people participating in outdoor recreation”

Question 7: We suggest something along the lines of “I would like to see expanded mountain biking trails at Havenwoods State Forest and adjacent to the Hank Aaron Trail. Youth and their families mountain biking has exploded in popularity in Wisconsin.
In the City of Milwaukee and surrounding communities near the lake, participation in NICA team is greatly limited by the lack of quality trails close to home. Havenwoods in particular would allow us to open up this fantastic sport for young people and their families, eliminating the need for transportation to far away trail systems.”

Question 9: We suggest checking “Mountain biking” in addition to any other options you feel are appropriate for you.

Trailwork Opportunity!

With the warmer temps, we will continue our trail-building at Kletzsch Park this Saturday (April 13th) and on Sunday, April 21st. We will be cleaning up the trail, widening it in spots, and also fixing some of the bench cuts. With lots of volunteers, two days of work should be enough.

Make sure you wear layers, work gloves, and eye protection. Bring a water bottle so we can reduce single-use plastic. We will have some treats. If you have any appropriate tools, please bring them along. Finally if you haven't signed the Metro waiver in the past year, please do that. Here’s the link to SignUp Genius.

Thanks so much-
