Shoreline Rotarians and friends are invited to join Lake Forest Park Rotary for their annual End Polio FUNdraising Night on Wednesday, October 21, at Everest Kitchen!

Lake Forest Park Rotarian, Mohan, is generously hosting this year's event at his restaurant following the closure of Forest Grill. Enjoy a delicious buffet from 4:00 to 8:00 PM for $25 per person, with 20% of the proceeds donated to Rotary's End Polio Now campaign.

Bring your family, invite your friends, and enjoy a wonderful meal while supporting Rotary's global effort to eradicate polio. Every meal shared helps move us closer to a polio-free world.

A neighborhood grocery store can do so much more than fill shopping carts—it can help fill a community’s needs!

During Rotary’s **Community Economic Development Month**, Shoreline Rotary is proud to recognize Ballinger Thriftway for its outstanding commitment to local families.

From donating food to Shoreline Rotary’s Food4Kids program to delivering more than 1,000 pounds of food to local food banks, supporting Vision House with over $2,000 in holiday donations, and welcoming student food drives, Ballinger Thriftway makes giving back part of everyday community life.

Come Pack With Us! October 22nd at 5:30pm at Shoreline Community Church

Food4Kids helps provide students at Ridgecrest Elementary who are experiencing food insecurity with easy-to-prepare meals for the weekend, helping them return to school Monday ready to learn. Shoreline Community Church has supported this program for the past six years, and this year Shoreline Rotary is helping coordinate monthly packing events and bring volunteers together to support the effort.

# North City Park: A Small Forest Making a Big Difference

In the heart of the North City neighborhood, at 19201 10th Ave NE, this four acres of forest offer a quiet place to walk, breathe and discover nature. **North City Park** is a small urban forest, but its trees and natural habitat provide important benefits as Shoreline grows and new housing and transportation development surrounds the area near the 185th Light Rail Station.

Shoreline Rotary has been involved in caring for this neighborhood treasure for many years, including providing funding to rebuild the park's **kiosk** and organizing restoration work parties. Rotarians have worked alongside neighbors to remove invasive plants, care for native plantings, spread mulch and improve the park's trails and forest understory.

North City Park is part of the **Green Shoreline Partnership**, a collaboration of the City of Shoreline, nonprofit organizations, community groups, businesses and volunteers working together to restore and support the health of Shoreline's parks and open spaces. The partnership recognizes that urban forests improve air quality, reduce stormwater runoff, provide wildlife habitat and create accessible places for people to enjoy nature.

A Shoreline Rotary connection to the park is especially personal. **Rotarian Judy MacCully has served as North City Park's volunteer Forest Steward since 2021**, helping organize restoration activities and engage community volunteers in caring for the forest.

# # # Discover North City Park This October

During October, Shoreline Rotary invites neighbors to take a walk through North City Park, located at 19201 10th Ave NE, and look for the **small wonders of nature** that can easily be missed.

The park offers a winding paved path as well as trails through the upper forest. Watch the kiosk for ideas about what to look for during your visit—from interesting trees and plants to birds and other signs of life.

As Shoreline becomes more densely developed, neighborhood forests like North City Park become even more valuable. They offer a place to step away from the bustle of daily life and enjoy the benefits of nature close to home.

# # # Help Prepare the Forest for Winter

There will also be opportunities this fall for neighbors to work alongside Shoreline Rotarians as we prepare North City Park for winter planting.

**Mark your calendar for December 12, 2026, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. for a Shoreline Days planting event at North City Park.** Additional work parties will be announced as plans are finalized.

No special experience is needed. Bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to get your hands dirty.

Shoreline Rotary Gathering Highlights — October 7, 2026
Community, recognition, music—and plenty of opportunities to get involved!

If you missed this week’s Shoreline Rotary gathering, you missed a meeting that celebrated two outstanding members, looked ahead to important community events, and enjoyed a wonderful presentation from the Northwest Jr. Pipe Band.

We were pleased to recognize Marcia Holiday as a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF1) and Kristina Hatting as a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF+1). Congratulations to both Marcia and Kristina, and thank you for your continued commitment to Rotary and our community!

We also received an invitation to the Shoreline College Giving Table Luncheon. If you would like to join Shoreline Rotary at our table, message us and let us know you'd like a seat!

October 7: Young Musicians, Big Traditions: Northwest Junior Pipe Band Comes to Shoreline Rotary

The Shoreline Rotary is thrilled to welcome two speakers, John Garlid and Kevin Auld, for an inspiring presentation on the Northwest Junior Pipe Band!

The Northwest Junior Pipe Band (NWJPB) is Washington State's only competitive youth Scottish bagpipe and drum band. Founded in 1995, the non-profit organization is dedicated to providing world-class musical education, teamwork, and leadership development for youth ages 8 to 18.

Discover how this remarkable organization mentors young musicians in our region. Our speakers will share insights into the band's rigorous training, competitive achievements, and dedication to community service. You will learn how learning traditional piping and drumming builds lifelong leadership, teamwork, and discipline in local youth.
Join us for this uplifting session to celebrate regional talent and community mentorship!
