At our last meeting, the subject of our new park was raised. The City has apparently finalized the planning of the West Echo Lake Park, including the decision to take the path all the way to the water and a dock.

Park at West Echo Lake (The Lake Perch?)
The design for this park includes a picnic table, lake viewing platform, plantings, and fishing pier. A combination of boardwalk, elevated walkway, and ground level path take visitors down to the lake. An ADA parking spot is included in the design, although it is unclear if they expect disabled people to go all the way down the path.

View the full concept design package.

At our meeting on March 17, 2026, the topic of the diversity at Echo Lake Elementary came up. This photo is from 2019, highlighting the 32 languages spoken in the homes of Echo Lake students.

All the students from those families are bilingual. Echo Lake has a wonderfully multicultural environment.

Washington State Train Show
Evergreen State Fairgrounds, Monroe WA
Pavilion (Building 600), Event Center (Building 604), and 4H Building (Building 501)
Sunday, February 22, 2026, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

One of the largest all-scale (different size trains) model railroad shows on the West Coast.

Sponsored by The United Northwest Model Railroad Club Seattle

Free parking is available only in the YELLOW lot off Cascade View Drive while there is a $5 fee to park in the other lots.

A thousand or two people are expected to attend, including entire families.

Look for Echo Lake resident Dennis Terpstra!

Dennis belongs to the 4dNTRAK N-scale club that will have a large layout with several trains running in the Event Center Building (Building 604). Club members will be wearing red shirts.

If you stop by their layout, say hi to Dennis and he’ll point out special features of their layout including the modules that he has created.

(Hint: Older kids may even have an opportunity to run a train, maybe.)

Dennis created a Dutch module and also a Japanese module which are unique. However, not all modules in this club are included in every show.

Take the survey! Half of our neighborhood was rezone for density around the light rail station. Now let's help make it work for us.

https://engage.shorelinewa.gov/stationarea

The City of Shoreline is working to make it easier and safer to walk, bike, and roll around Shoreline, and we need your input!

We are looking at new paths and connections around the light rail stations and the surrounding neighborhoods.

Tell us how you travel around and near the stations.

Where do you want to go and where would you like to see new paths and connections?

We want to plan now for new paths and shortcuts developers will add in useful places as these areas redevelop over the coming decades.

Please fill-out a brief survey on our Engage Shoreline webpage

As a thank you, you can enter a raffle to win a $50 gift card. Winners will be randomly selected from those who provide an email address. The survey closes March 8, 2026.

We are updating the light rail subarea plans to better connect to and through the areas around the stations. We are also studying allowing more land uses in a small area near the Shoreline North (185th Street) Station. Use the buttons below to engage with the project.

Who is planning on attending the meeting tonight about getting to and from the 185th Station?

Shoreline North/185th Station- Wednesday, Feb. 11, 7:00 – 8:30pm
Spartan Recreation Center, Olympic Room
(between the Shoreline Stadium and the Shoreline Center
202 NE 185th St

Echo Lake is in the ironic position of being close to the 185th station but not being able to get there. The garage is full by 8:30am. Walking is hazardous. And half the neighborhood is closer to the Mountlake Terrace station but it's a different city/county and no one asks our opinion!

Wednesday, February 11

You will be happy to know that Echo Lake is now free from toxic algae - just in case you were in the mood for a swim!

It was cleared on December 24th but I waited until it seemed certain that it would hold.

Ok to fish (and eat the fish), eat the crabs, and let your dogs chase sticks into the water.

Here's the official announcement:

Echo Lake has re-opened to the public after recent algae testing that indicates the water is safe for recreation. Always use caution when algae is present in the water. Both toxic algae and non-harmful varieties of algae can appear quickly. If you see algae in the water, we do not recommend entering the water in that area. More information on toxic algae can be found here:
