We are still out at the park every Saturday, starting at 10 am. We usually go until 12:30. Come on down and join us as we clear invasives from native habitat restoration areas!

We are still watering our restoration plantings - every Friday morning from 9 to 11:30 am. Come to the park and give us a hand - we'll show you our innovative irrigation system that you can set up in your own gardens - saves water and time!

Can't come on Fridays? We also do work parties on Saturdays 9 to 11:30 am. Sometimes we remove invasive species, sometimes we mulch plants, and sometimes we create hugelkultur beds for our plantings. Come see the amazing difference in the health of plantings when we add these beds!

Hope to see you soon!

Letting everyone know our work party schedule for 2023! We are a group of diverse people looking for folks to help us maintain native habitat restoration areas at the park. Each year we clear and plant a new area with assistance from volunteers. When the restoration plantings are done, we maintain these areas throughout the summer to ensure the success of the plantings. Tasks include watering native plantings, removing invasive plants that return to the restoration areas, and mulching.
Who can volunteer: Folks who are interested in habitat restoration, folks who visit the park and are interested in giving back, high-schoolers looking for volunteer hours to fulfill their school community service hours, folks wanting to learn how to successfully grow native plants, anyone looking for a fun way to spend time outdoors. We appreciate everyone who comes to help make habitat restoration at the park a success.
We have 3-hour work parties on the third Saturday of each month, from 9 am to noon. Specific work parties dates:
• July 15th
• August 19th
• September 16th
• October 21st
• November 18th
Work parties are appropriate for all ages. We provide snacks, water, and tools. All you have to do is wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. There will be walking on a slope and uneven ground so be sure to wear closed-toed shoes. Meet us near the rest rooms at the lower parking lot where you can sign in and pick up your tools for the day. Come check out the project - help us restore native habitat at the park and meet other like-minded volunteers.
Your help is instrumental in returning nearshore habitat to the park - We look forward to meeting you!
Many thanks to the City of Shoreline, Forterra GreenCities, and the University of Washington for their support and funding.

Many thanks to the 20 volunteers who helped remove blackberry and ivy at our January 26th work party. It was a gorgeous sunny day and so fun to accomplish so much together. The before and after photos tell it all.
As you can see in the fourth photo, we still have invasive species clearing to do. Come join us at our next work party on February 9th from 10 am to 2 pm as we finish clearing blackberry and free the trees from ivy! Meet us at the sign-in table by the restrooms in the lower parking lot.
See you there!

This work party is appropriate for all ages. Who can volunteer: folks who visit the park and are interested in giving back, high-schoolers who are looking for volunteer hours to fulfill their school community service hours, folks wanting to learn how to successfully grow native plants, anyone looking for a fun way to spend time outdoors.

This Saturday, July 21st, is another watering day. Our efforts (supported by the City of Shoreline and King Conservation District) have shown great results - so many of the native plantings have survived and are doing well this year! Many thanks to all the volunteers who have helped with the watering each week.

If you are interested in helping, we are watering from 7 am until 11 am (we may finish a little earlier if we have enough folks helping). The more volunteers, the faster it goes!

If you've been wanting to come out to help, now is a good time. You can get a taste of what our work parties are like and afterward the beach is a great place to hang out. It's going to be another lovely day at the park!

All you need to do is wear sturdy shoes for the uneven terrain, wear a hat and sunscreen. We have the rest covered - we provide water, snacks, tools, and good conversation! Meet us near the restroom in the lower parking lot to sign in.

We look forward to meeting you!

We had a great work party last Saturday! Ten of us accomplished so much that day. Folks from Landau Associates were instrumental in helping us complete the semi-automatic watering system for two restoration areas. What does semi-automatic mean, you ask? We will still be running hoses to the restoration areas, but now have a system of tubing that allows us to fill the clay vessels while also getting to remove invasive species. It's a win-win for the native plantings and for getting to keep the scotch broom and blackberry under control.

We are ecstatic about not having to carry buckets of water to each plant! Thank you, Landau! And thank you to the City of Shoreline and King Conservation District for funding and support for this irrigation project.

Many thanks to everyone who helped at last Saturday's work party! We made fascines and put them on the hillside that was cleared of invasive species the week before. Now we have stable slopes ready for mulching and planting at our upcoming work parties - - watch for our next event announcement for the February 24th work party.

10/02/2017

Our final 3-hour work party for year is coming up on Saturday, October 14th, from 9 am to noon, It's been such a great year for park restoration with all our innovations for keeping plants happily watered and with all the help of the many volunteers who have helped.

Don't miss this last change to prepare the restoration areas for winter. We will be doing one last blackberry sweep through in an area that will planted next next Spring by a new University of Washington group. If we have enough folks, we'll also mulch the newest plantings to protect them from the winter cold.

Meet us in the lower parking lot by the rest rooms. We provide the snacks, water, and tools. All you have to do is show up with sturdy shoes/boots and dress for the weather. It can get chilly if there's rain or wind.

Again, much gratitude for all the folks who have helped at the park this year, we couldn't keep habitat restoration at the park going without you. We'll be starting up work parties again early next year - we'll let you know when as soon as the dates have been set up.

In the meantime, we hope to see you on Saturday the 14th!

LAST CHANCE TO HELP WITH NATIVE PLANT WATERING THIS YEAR!

This Saturday, September 30th from 1 pm to 3 pm will be our last watering day for the season. Our efforts (supported by the City of Shoreline and King Conservation District) have shown great results - many more native plantings have survived this year! A huge shout out to all the volunteers who have helped with the watering this summer.

The more volunteers, the faster it goes! If there are enough folks (4 or so), we get done sooner. So, bring a friend and then spend some time down on the beach when we're done.

All you need to do is wear sturdy shoes for the uneven terrain and dress for the weather. We have the rest covered - we provide water, snacks, tools, and good conversation! Just meet us near the restroom in the lower parking lot.
We look forward to meeting you!
