It’s another Wildlife Wednesday!

“Circle the Giraffes” by Ruth Beckett ~ 42” x 42”
Ruth purchased the giraffe fabric from the artist who’d created the block printing. However, she felt the center needed a touch more interest . An appliquéd star and an antique button did the trick!
Machine pieced. Hand appliquéd. Domestic machine quilted. Original design.

Not all quilts go on beds. Some go on walls. Some go on tables. And some go on your feet!

QA member Jennie Lee started making shoes last year. She started with a kit containing a sole & an insole but then modified it to suit her own design and method. Her shoes were featured in QA’s 2026 show in the exhibit “Surrounded by Color: Wearables”

“Chandelier” by Susan O'Donnell ~ 58” x 59”

Susan says this design caught her eye as a “simple yet a great vehicle for using bright fabrics.” It was her first attempt at quilting on a longarm and it turned out to be the most fun part of the project!

Machine pieced. Longarm machine quilted. Design source: Photograph. Design credit: Pinterest.

Here at QA, it’s a new series: Wildlife Wednesday.

For our inaugural trip into the wild, meet “Beaver Heaven” by Jerri Stroud ~ 36” x 33”
Jerri likes using animals for quilt designs & enjoys the process of creating a collage. She created this quilt to celebrate the toothy mascot at her grandchild’s elementary school.
Domestic machine quilted. Original design. Second place in the Art & Innovative category, 2026 quilt show.

From QA’s 2023 quilt show, Youth category:
“Fantasy Island” by Summer Alexander ~ 14” x 14”
Summer named this quilt because “…there’s so much not-real stuff in it, like mountains on top of mountains.”
Her favorite part of the quilt? The birds and the clear button! (upper left)
Hand & machine appliquéd, hand & machine quilted and, because she was just five when she made the quilt, some help from her grandmother, Margaret Bull.

32" × 32" • Original design
Machine pieced; hand and machine appliquéd; quilted on a domestic sewing machine. Additional techniques include raw-edge appliqué, mixed media, and texturizing with shrinkable interfacing.
