On Saturday in partnership with Ayer Park Department we held a referee clinic for high school students interested in becoming referees for our 3rd and 4th grade basketball programs. 18 students participated under the tutelage of Jonathan Silva and Kevin Johnston, who have a 50+ years of referee experience.

There is a major shortage of referees in youth sports, and our hope is to generate interest among young adults in a referee pathway for years to come. Our 3rd and 4th grade basketball players will benefit from having referees for the entire season and learning how to better their game.

Thank you to Jonathan and Kevin for volunteering their time.

Many of our ASYS and SYS players attended last night's ASRHS Boys' Senior Night. Thank you to the players for sharing their night with the next generation of soccer players in Shirley and Ayer.

During the game our 5/6 players served as ball runners and they were allowed to shoot on the big nets during halftime. Thank you to AD Kendall, coach Guisto, and ASYS coaches Greg Cotter, Dave Grubb, and Noah Schrock for organizing this great event.

Along with the Ayer Park Department, we are looking for some high school students (male or female) to serve as referees for our recreational 3rd and 4th grade basketball program this winter. The only requirement is to attend the referee clinic on November 8 for an introduction to refereeing and to get some hands on experience refereeing some youngsters.

All games will be held on Saturdays at either the HS or MS gym, and are approximately one hour in length.

Hey everyone! 👋 The registration deadline for Shirley Youth Basketball (K–2) and Ayer Shirley Youth Basketball (3–8) is coming up 📅 November 1, 2025!

After that date ⏰ players will be waitlisted and a late fee may apply — so don’t miss out!

✨ What’s New This Season (2025–2026):
🔹 Grades 3–4 programs are now combined with Ayer to create a more balanced program. Shirley residents should register with ASYB.
🔹 NEW! Competitive travel teams through Central Mass Youth Basketball for players in grades 4/5 and 6/7/8. (You must also play on a rec team to be eligible.)

We’re excited to announce that registration is now open for the 2025–2026 Shirley Youth Basketball season!

This year we’ll be hosting co-ed programs for Kindergarten, Grades 1 & 2, and—new this year—a combined program for Grades 3 & 4 in partnership with our friends at the Ayer Park Department.

⏰ Registration is open through November 1. A late fee will apply after this date.

Program Details

Kindergarten
• Saturday mornings at Ayer Shirley Regional Middle School
• Runs December 6 – mid-February

Grades 1 & 2
• One practice per week at Lura A. White
• Games on Saturdays at Ayer Shirley Regional Middle School
• Practices begin the week of December 1

Grades 3 & 4 (NEW – partnered with Ayer Parks Department)
• Separate programs for boys and girls
• Registration through Ayer Parks Department
• Evaluations (not tryouts) in mid-November
• Practices begin the week of December 1 at Lura A. White and/or Page Hilltop (2 per week)
• Saturday games starting December 6 at Ayer Shirley Regional High School and/or Middle School

AYER-SHIRLEY SOCCER NIGHT AT THE REVS 2025: Hope everyone is excited for the start of the season! This fall, we’ll be hosting our Ayer-Shirley Youth Soccer Night at the Revs on Saturday, October 18th ! If you’ve never been to a Revs game before, it’s free to tailgate before the game as a family / team, and the games themselves are super family friendly even with over 20,000 attendees. So much fun!

Like last year, all families from town will have access to discounted tickets (close to 30% off face value) to attend. Corner tickets (reg. $50) are available for ONLY $36.78 each after fees! Upgrades also are available for any family interested.

Ayer Shirley Youth Soccer will field 19 teams for over 230 players across grades 3-8.

Shirley Youth Soccer will see 70 participants ranging age from 3 to 8.
