Here is the Press Release from Hanging Rock Christian Camp, West Lebanon, IN

Hanging Rock Christian Camp Announces Transformation Initiative Following Major Grants from Lilly Endowment Inc.

Hanging Rock Christian Camp is thrilled to announce a historic season of growth and blessing. Through a series of competitive grants from Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc., the camp has been awarded over $2.6 million in funding and matching opportunities to revitalize its facilities and expand its reach to Indiana youth.

The funding represents a culmination of a vision that began with a five-year master plan developed alongside consultant Randy Pim. What started as a strategic roadmap that has now become a reality through three distinct phases of support from the Lilly Endowment:

• Infrastructure Support: An initial $150,000 grant for a comprehensive infrastructure study.
• Implementation Grant: A $1.5 million award to execute large-scale capital projects identified in the study.
• Matching Challenge: A $1 million matching donation for Phase 3 of the Grant Cycle, providing a powerful incentive for community investment.

We had no clue that as we were putting together our five-year plan, the Lord was working behind the scenes to provide the funds to accomplish these goals. Our vision is to make Hanging Rock a true place of renewal, connection, and growth.”

Expanding Capacity and Enhancing Experience
This campaign will allow Hanging Rock to add 74 new beds across four new cabins, bringing the total camp capacity to 325. Beyond housing, the grants will fund critical infrastructure and recreational improvements, including:

• Upgrades to the waste treatment plant and kitchen facilities.
• Construction of a new shop and administrative office.
• A new first aid station (remodeled from the current office).
• Water access at the wilderness camp and expansion of parking.
• Pool enhancements, including a new slide, improved filter system, and a renovated bathhouse.

While some projects will be visible to campers this year, the full scope of the master plan is slated for completion over the next five years. The latest grant is one of 40 implementation grants awarded through the Lilly Endowment’s Capital Projects Initiative for Residential Youth Camp, which aims initiative to help Indiana residential youth camps improve programming through enhanced facilities.

Hanging Rock Christian Camp is dedicated to building a thriving Christian community where guests experience rest, renewal, and a deepening relationship with God and others. Through continued investment in hospitality and programs, the camp meets the evolving needs of a growing ministry.

Exciting news for Fairmount Camp on this Good Friday.
(see press release below)

Fairmount Camp Receives Implementation Grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to Transform Residential Youth Facilities
FAIRMOUNT, IN — Fairmount Camp has received a grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. through its Capital Project Initiative for Residential Youth Camps. This funding will support "Phase 3" of a comprehensive capital improvement plan designed to modernize aging infrastructure and expand the camp’s capacity to serve youth year-round.
The grant will fund several high-impact projects, including the construction of an 11,700-square-foot multi-purpose Recreation Center featuring a full gymnasium and classrooms, and a new Lodge/Retreat Center designed for year-round residency. Additionally, the funds will support critical infrastructure upgrades such as complete electrical rewiring of five buildings, a modernized sewer and water system, and the renovation of the West Playground to meet full ADA accessibility and safety standards.
These improvements directly align with Fairmount Camp’s mission to provide a refuge from daily distractions and create life-changing encounters that strengthen families and the community. By winterizing facilities and upgrading utilities, the camp will transition from a seasonal five-month operation to a year-round destination, significantly increasing its ability to serve vulnerable and underserved youth, including those in foster care.
"We believe that the completion of these projects will serve our mission for generations to come," said the Fairmount Camp Board. "This modernization ensures a safe, inclusive, and high-quality environment where youth can thrive in every season".
The grant is one of 40 implementation grants being awarded through Phase 3 of the Lilly Endowment initiative. The initiative aims to help Indiana residential youth camps improve the overall camp experience and outcomes for youth through new, enhanced, and expanded facilities integral to quality programming.
