Starting tomorrow, for the first few weeks in September, PPL will be doing wire work on the rail trail between Newville and Carlisle. If you are using the rail trail and you come upon them, you have to stay clear.

Look at that!❤️

To protect the trail from overgrowth, spraying will occur Friday, starting at McAllister Church Road and working down through Newville and to Shippensburg. There will be signs up temporarily closing sections of the trail as spraying progresses - please obey them so there are no delays. It is safe as soon as the material dries, and the affected sections will be reopened ASAP.

Please join us in honoring the memory of dedicated trail volunteer Jack Hill.

Jack never turned down an opportunity to lend a hand and maintain the trail. We will always remember his wonderful smile, his interesting commentary and his uncanny ability to fix just about anything - even without the right tools - to get the job done.

You may have never met Jack, or talked with him working along the trail, but you benefited from all his time and talents that he shared during countless hours of volunteering. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will remain a part of the trail he cared so much about.

There will be a Celebration of Life hosted by Jack’s family at Branch Creek Place in Shippensburg this Sunday @ 3 PM.

Please join the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail Council at 5pm on October 13, 2026, as we honor Jack with the dedication of a bench and the planting of a tree in his memory at the intersection of Bullshead Road and the rail trail.

Donations to help cover the cost of the bench and tree may be made at https://www.cvrtc.org/donation/. Put Jack’s name in the comment area please.
