Sharing a ❤️heartfelt message from Tuckerton Lumber Company 🇺🇸

These are my grandparents, Fred and Mildred Bunnell, and my mother, Claire Laird.

88 years ago, during the Great Depression, my grandfather founded Tuckerton Lumber Company. I know that they faced challenges and difficulties during that time, and many others in the years to come, but I feel pretty confident in saying that they never faced anything like Covid-19.

As an essential business, we had to make some very hard decisions while trying to figure out how to best serve our customers and our community.
For the last two months, both of our locations have operated with reduced personnel and shortened hours.

Due to the layout and the volume of foot traffic in our Surf City location, we made the decision to close our doors to the public and service each customer out of three oceanside windows. We became personal shoppers for each client who came to see us. From paint, to garbage cans, to plumbing parts, or the smallest bolt and washer, each sale has been personally cared for by our sales staff.

I know that other essential stores have already been allowing customers inside their premises, and while this may seem like a simple thing for us to do, it actually is not.

Like many other small businesses that started with Mom & Pop and limited funds, each time my grandparents had enough money, they added another room onto the building. Great for them, but a nightmare for social distancing.

So, again, we make the difficult decision to act in the best interest of our employees AND our customers..to keep everyone’s safety at the top of the list and keep our doors locked but our window and curbside service open..even on Memorial Day weekend.

We apologize for any inconvenience this causes, but to keep all of us safe, we would choose inconvenience every time.

As an added note, please thank your “personal shoppers” at TLC. Our employees are amazing, and they have worked harder than anyone in the history of retail. We couldn’t do any of this without them.

Tuckerton Lumber COVID-19 Update 3/21/2020

Like many of you, we continue to monitor the fast changing COVID-19 health crisis. Tuckerton Lumber is firmly committed to the health and safety of our customers, our dedicated employees and serving our communities.

Our Employees:

At this time we are operating on a reduced workforce and will continue to abide by Official Guidelines and practice Social Distancing within our stores. We will continue to stay open, operate and fulfill orders as long as we are able to.

Retail Stores & Lumber Yard:

Due to our reduced workforce, entry to our Surf City Store will only be accessible through our Lumber Counter Door, located in the back of the building.

Additionally, our business hours have changed, effective today March 21, 2020. Operating hours for our Tuckerton and Surf City Stores are Monday - Friday 7:00AM - 3:00PM and Saturday 7:00AM - 12:00PM.

As part of our standard business practice, our stores are cleaned and sanitized daily and we continue to disinfect high-touch areas like point of sale checkout devices, door handles, and bathrooms.

While the circumstances continue to change, we will modify our business operations as needed and thank you in advance for your patience.

We extend our sincere thanks to our employees for their support and loyal dedication during this challenging time.
