John Paul II Center for Special Learning

John Paul II Center for Special Learning Providing quality individualized education for children and adults with special needs.

John Paul II Center is the only Catholic school in Berks County that provides a comprehensive educational program for children and adults (ages 3-21) with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our Adult Program was established to provide personalized assistance to adults (ages 21+) with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This diverse day program focuses on maintaining and developi

ng social and self-help skills. We are open to individuals of all faiths and religious beliefs, and have traditionally served Catholics and non-Catholics in equal numbers. We educate the whole child academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.

Today is the big day! Cynthia is beginning her first day of employment at Alvernia University’s CollegeTowne!

While she was a student at JPII, Cynthia shared her dream of one day working at CollegeTowne. Today, as a JPII graduate, that dream is becoming reality.

We are so proud of Cynthia and grateful for the generous donors and community partners who help create opportunities for our students to learn, grow and prepare for life beyond graduation.

A special thank-you to Alvernia University for being such an incredible partner and for providing meaningful opportunities for JPII students and graduates.

Congratulations, Cynthia! We couldn’t be prouder of you!

Stay tuned for a special video coming soon that takes a look back at Cynthia’s journey—and the progress that helped turn her dream into reality.

Miss Phyllis started art classes this week and featured works from Joan Miró! He created whimsical, colorful works and we practiced painting in his style! Great job, everyone! 🎨

🍎We are almost at 60% of our $10,000 lunch program fundraiser goal! Can you help?

🍊Why is JPII’s lunch program so important?

🌽“Our lunch program does not receive government funding like public school programs. This means that JPII covers the cost of lunch for students whose families struggle to afford the $4 daily expense. In addition to the nutritional value of our lunches, our food-to-table program introduces students to new and healthy foods made with vegetables and herbs they help grow in our school garden.”
— Rene Berkhammer, Director of Transition

🍌Our lunch program begins next week, and your gift can help ensure that every JPII student has access to a healthy lunch, regardless of their family’s ability to pay.

Yesterday, our Girls Talk launched the 2026-2027 year with a trip to Mimmo's Restaurant! They all enjoyed a delicious lunch and practiced their social skills. We are grateful for the continued support from Power of the Purse in Berks County and are excited about the plans for the upcoming year!
