Friends of High Cliff State Park

Friends of High Cliff State Park Sherwood, WI Welcome

Location High Cliff State Park is the only state-owned recreational area on Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin's largest lake.

The park gets its name from the limestone cliff of the Niagara Escarpment, which parallels the eastern shore of Lake Winnebago. This ledge extends northeasterly to the Door County peninsula and on to Niagara Falls, New York. The magnificent 12-foot statue of Winnebago Indian Chief Red Bird, standing high on a huge granite rock, overlooks the lake and is a popular destination in the park.

Amazing!

Amazing!

A stroll at High Cliff was meant to be this morning before my radio show. Came upon this angel deep in the dark shadows! A little beat up from the rain last night, but breathtaking and beautiful!

Thank you!

Today, surrounded by donors and community partners, Friends of High Cliff State Park gathered for the dedication of the Lime Kiln Trail waterfall area and stairs. This celebration marks the completion of the Waterfall Area improvements and replacement of the Mid and Upper Trail Stairs as part of the Lime Kiln Trail restoration project at High Cliff State Park!

“We would not be able to make these much-needed updates without our many supporters and we are so thankful.”

Low Vision Nature Exploration Walk
Wednesday, June 24th now at 10:30am to 11:45am. (The weather has us needing to reschedule from 17th )

Description
Join retired High Cliff State Park Naturalist Cindy Mueller for a guided nature therapy walk along the accessible Butterfly Pond Trail at High Cliff State Park on Wednesday, June 24th, 2026, from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.
This special stroll is designed for participants who have low vision or are visually impaired and would like to experience nature through all of their senses.

Moving slowly and intentionally, we will listen for bird songs and wind, smell wild plants and water, and explore the textures of the natural world. Our time together will focus on engagement with nature through sensory exploration rather than distance. We will remain close and accessible to one another so everyone can feel comfortable and fully involved.

There is no cost to participate; however, a Wisconsin State Park vehicle admission pass is required. The pass is valid for the entire day if you wish to picnic in the park after the walk. To prepare, please dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear. Canes, walkers, and wheelchairs are welcome.

Please park in the Butterfly Pond parking lot. This walk is limited to 15 people so please call the park office or email Cindy with your name and contact information. Cindy will promptly reach out to you.

This event is weather-dependent.
