“It’s with a heavy heart that we must rehome Harper. She came to us in July from a neighbor that had rescued her from being homeless. She has made amazing progress since she’s been here but she does not like our small dog and they have had some conflicts.

Good:
- She is now housebroken and uses the dog door.
- She can sit.
- Her recall is getting pretty good.
- Great on a leash.
- She is young, around 1 year old.
- She is good with other dogs, except our small one. She plays with our large dog and the neighbor’s dogs just fine.
- She is extremely friendly with people
- Very affectionate, sweet and cheerful.
- She has been fine with our cats.

Challenges:
- Due to her rough start, she has some food guarding issues.
- She doesn’t like our small dog. She doesn’t stalk him or have aggression towards him every day, she just has issues with around food and certain areas of the house/food/bed. But I won’t sugarcoat it, I would not suggest that she lives with small dogs.

She has a spay appointment and first round of vaccines on October 14th. I will take her there and pay for everything. She will come with flea meds and food. We just want to find her a great home.”

Multnomah County, Oregon Residents! Animal Services hired a new Director, Eli Hurley. Please listen and share! The animals deserve better.

Hurley’s misrepresentation on his resume advanced him past the first round by making it seem that he met the minimum qualifications. At what point was the discrepancy revealed? If it was early on, why did the county still consider him?

MCAS has a history of hiring unqualified directors. The previous two had zero animal welfare experience. While we are glad the county hired someone with experience, there were other applicants just as or more qualified that were rejected.

There were over 30 applicants with animal rescue, welfare, and/or shelter experience. Only 11 of them made it past the first round and were invited to interview.

The County Auditor asked some very important questions in her email to the Commissioners:

• What other candidates might have applied if they knew the minimum qualifications were flexible?
• When the county decided to continue considering Hurley for the director role, did the county re-evaluate other applicants they had initially determined did not meet the professional experience requirement?

This process has made one thing evident: dysfunction is not isolated to MCAS. Many of our criticisms of MCAS such as lack of accountability, lack of oversight, poor leadership, unqualified people in positions of power, and financial mismanagement seem to exist county wide.

We need change at MCAS and Multnomah County as a whole.

🧡 MEET IGGY — JUST LOOK AT THAT FACE! 🧡

This happy, handsome boy is Iggy. He’s about 1½ years old, 63 pounds, ridiculously dog friendly, loves ALL the toys, and has a set of ears that apparently operate completely independently. 😂

Looking at him today, you would never know what Iggy survived as a tiny puppy.

In March 2025, Iggy was impounded at Del Norte County Animal Control in Crescent City, California. He was only 10–12 weeks old and had suffered a severe attack by an unknown animal. His little body was covered in bite wounds in various stages of infection and healing.
The Humane Society of Del Norte knew this sweet puppy deserved a chance and stepped in to help save him.

What followed was a long road to recovery. Iggy underwent numerous surgeries and daily wound debridements that required sedation. His injuries were so extensive that bandages had to be sutured to his skin, and he spent nearly six months wearing a cone. He also battled infections and allergies along the way.

Through ALL of it, Iggy remained incredibly sweet.

He had an amazing will to live, and today you would never know what he went through.

Iggy fully recovered and grew into the beautiful, goofy, happy dog you see here. He is so good with other dogs that the shelter often used him to help assess the friendliness of incoming dogs!

Unfortunately, despite being such a wonderful dog, Iggy continued to be overlooked. Pit bull mixes can be especially difficult to place in California because of landlord and insurance restrictions.

But Iggy got another chance. 🐾

He was selected for the Humane Society of Del Norte’s Prison Paws Program at Pelican Bay State Prison. In this eight-week program, trained inmate handlers work with shelter dogs to help prepare them for adoption.

And Iggy is doing GREAT!

🎓 Iggy graduates October 1, 2026, and the goal is for him to graduate with a HOME waiting for him.

And yes, those incredible ears really do rotate whenever they feel like it 😂

Transportation should NOT stop the right family from applying. HSDN volunteers are willing to travel far and wide to get Iggy into a wonderful home. In previous Prison Paws rounds, volunteers have traveled as far south as Los Angeles and as far north as Seattle.

After everything this boy survived as a tiny puppy, we would LOVE to see the final chapter of his story be the best one yet: a family of his very own. 🙏

Affordable spay and neuter services are one of the most important tools we have to prevent unwanted litters, reduce the number of animals entering shelters, and help families keep their pets healthy without cost being a barrier. A low-cost clinic available to the community could prevent suffering before it ever begins and ultimately save thousands of animals from entering an already overwhelmed shelter system.

🚨 COURTESY POST: BUDDHA NEEDS A HOME! 🚨

Okay, Oregon friends... look at this handsome BIG BOY! 😍

We are helping our friends at Best Friends of Baker, Inc. in Baker City, Oregon spread the word about Buddha, a gorgeous young Staffy mix who is looking for his forever family.

Buddha is only about 1 year old and 65 pounds, and underneath all those muscles is a big, affectionate, goofy sweetheart. ❤️

He came into rescue as an unclaimed stray, but he hasn't let his past dampen his spirit. Buddha LOVES people, toys, walks, playing and wrestling with his foster dog siblings. He's energetic and playful, but he's also learning how to settle down and enjoy his quiet time. He sleeps peacefully in his crate at night and is making great progress with his leash manners and recall.

• Friendly and affectionate
• Playful and energetic
• Loves other dogs and enjoys wrestling with his foster siblings

Because Buddha has shown interest in chasing squirrels, chipmunks and livestock, a home without small animals would probably be the best fit. He would likely LOVE kids, but because he's a big, enthusiastic young guy, he could accidentally knock over very small children during play.

Buddha is still young and learning, but he has SO much potential. He just needs someone willing to give a big goofy rescue dog the chance he deserves. 🥹❤️

Quinn is located at Del Norte County Animal Control in Crescent City CA just south of the Oregon border. Volunteers for Dogs of Del Norte County (on Facebook and Instagram) travel at least twice a month along the I-5 all the way to Vancouver, Washington conducting meet and greets in Oregon and Washington for those who have submitted an adoption application (you can foster to adopt as well). Get your application in now, the next transport is scheduled for July 19!

Quinn is a water dog and enjoys time in the play yard. She has found her favorite thing in the world…a green ball that she likes to take with her everywhere. She needs to be in a home with no cats, small livestock or little dogs. Everyone loves a brindle girl.

Quinn came to us as a stray with severe skin issues that have since healed. She will need quality non-chicken protein food and flea treatment. This girl is something else. She will make you smile, make you laugh, and make you shake your head with her antics. She rocked her kid testing and has been dog friendly. She still acts very puppyish and when excited will jump up and be nippy so will need training in this area. She also needs to learn house manners. She enjoys a good spa day and rode nicely in the backseat if a car with a safety restraint.

Volunteers travel north all the way to Vancouver, WA at least twice a month conducting meet and greets along the way for those who have submitted an adoption application. Dogs of Del Norte County

Rambo is a brindle boy and has one speed…full throttle! He loves his people, any ball, and his rope toy. Rambo will give you some back talk or let you know when he needs your attention. He is potty trained and needs to work on his leash manners. We will be testing him with dogs and will keep you posted.

Professional Goofball, Enzo, Reporting for Duty! 🐕

My name is Enzo, and if there was an Olympics event for sheer silliness, I’d win the gold medal for sure! 🥇 I’m an (almost!) year and a half old pitbull mix, weighing in at 40 pounds of loving goof. I’m a natural extrovert, and I’ll do anything it takes to wiggle my way into the heart of every new human I meet. And I really mean wiggle, with my whole body, snout to tail!

I love walking on a leash, but I don’t really trust other dogs and want my space. When it comes to humans though, I’ll take all the scritches and lovin’s I can get! And don’t worry, I’ll let you know when I want them. I’m a master of mouth noises, with a whole repertoire of song, debate, and sheer alien gibbering will send you rolling on the floor in laughter!
