Three Horses Were Stabbed. How Do We Prevent the Next Tragedy?

Many of you have likely seen the news about the three horses at a Las Vegas show who were allegedly stabbed by a 17-year-old girl. Our hearts go out to these horses as they recover from this traumatic ordeal, and to their owners, who are undoubtedly devastated by what their beloved animals endured.

To be clear, we do not know all the facts of this case or the mental state of the alleged perpetrator. However, it does provide an important opportunity to discuss a larger issue: how we can work together to prevent animal cruelty before it happens.

When a teenager commits a serious act of animal cruelty, many people ask the same question afterward: "Were there warning signs?"

The reality is that preventing animal abuse is a community responsibility. While the vast majority of teenagers with mental health challenges are not violent, serious acts of cruelty often do not occur completely without warning. Family members, friends, schools, animal owners, and community members all play a role in recognizing concerning behavior and speaking up when something doesn't seem right.

Here are a few ways we can help protect animals:
- Take threats, stalking behavior, and repeated fascination with harming animals seriously.
- Report suspicious behavior around barns, farms, shelters, and animals rather than assuming someone else will handle it.
- Encourage parents and guardians to seek professional help when a young person is displaying troubling behaviors.
- Support access to mental health services and early intervention programs.
- Install security measures, maintain good records, and document concerning incidents when they occur.
-Teach empathy, kindness, and responsible animal care from a young age.
-Never dismiss animal cruelty as "kids being kids." Intentional harm to animals is a serious issue that deserves attention.

Many tragedies can be prevented when people are willing to speak up, ask questions, and take action before a situation escalates. Protecting animals requires more than reacting after harm occurs—it requires all of us to recognize warning signs, support intervention, and advocate for the safety and well-being of vulnerable animals.

If you see something concerning, say something. Animals depend on us to be their voice.

I will never not post this no matter how controversial. It’s weird to me that this even is controversial because as this diagram shows it’s just the way things are. Your horse is not done growing and its growth plates are not closed by two or three years old. I would never start training my horse to ride before five , EVER ! There are so many things you can do with your horse other than ride while they are finishing growing. You can do ground driving, you can teach lots of ground manners and even tricks if you want to.. To rush your horse is a disservice to them. I hope the diagram I posted below helps educate people on how a horse truly develops.

Good morning from Todd Acres 💖🌈😻

I woke up this morning with so many things on my mind and already feeling like I was running behind, not doing enough, not good enough… then I looked out the window and saw this…. A rainbow arched directly over the barn.

A reminder that sometimes it’s ok to pause the plans, and allow myself the time to soak up the peace and joy from this beautiful view.

In a world that can often feel heavy, moments like this remind us that there is always hope, always beauty, and always something bigger than us at work.

Feeling incredibly grateful for this little farm, the animals who call it home, and the people who share this journey with us.

Sometimes the most magical moments aren’t planned at all.
