If you’re new to Texoma, there are a few things you should probably know. And Battle of the Ax is one of them. 🪓🏈

Sherman vs. Denison isn’t just another Friday night football game. The rivalry dates back to 1901, generations of families have picked a side, and yes — there is an actual AX that goes home with the winner.

This year, the Bearcats and Yellow Jackets meet again on Aug. 28 in Denison, and the bragging rights are very, very real.

So whether you were born knowing which side you’re on or you just moved here and have been wondering what all the fuss is about… consider this your Battle of the Ax 101.

And don’t forget: the 2026 Battle of the Ax Canned Food Drive is already underway to help local families while the rivalry heats up off the field, too.
