George Washington receives his Master Mason Degree.

On August 4th in 1753, 21-year-old Virginian George Washington is declared a Master Mason in a Masonic ritual performed by his fellow Freemasons during a secret ceremony in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Washington, who belonged to Alexandria Lodge No. 22, had been initiated into the Masons at age 20 on November 4, 1752.

The following year, on March 3, 1753, he passed as a โ€œFellow Craft." Five months later, Washington was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason.

The Brethren of Travis Lodge #117 AF & AM took a field trip to the Sherman Jazz Museum this evening and what a fun time we had.

We enjoyed hearing Larry tell us stories of the old building and some getting to see it for the first time. Bill and his Wife were so gracious to host us this evening. Such an amazing building and itโ€™s bound to be the best Jazz museum youโ€™ll find anywhere.

๐Ÿ“… On This Day in Masonic History โ€“ August 2, 1862

๐Ÿ” The Grand Lodge of Colorado Is Founded

On August 2, 1862, the Grand Lodge of Colorado was officially established, marking a major milestone in the westward growth of Freemasonry in the United States.

As the first Grand Lodge west of the Mississippi, Colorado Masons organized to bring the Craftโ€™s guiding principlesโ€”Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truthโ€”to the rugged frontier. Their commitment to community-building, charity, and moral leadership helped lay the foundations for civil society in a developing region of America.

โ›ฐ A symbol of order on the edge of wilderness.

๐Ÿ“œ A brotherhood carried westward with courage.

Remembering Brother Sam Houston
March 2, 1793 - July 26, 1863

Remembering Brother Sam Houston
March 2, 1793 โ€“ July 26, 1863
Today, we remember Brother Sam Houston, who passed to the Celestial Lodge Above on this day in 1863.
A soldier, statesman, the first President of the Republic of Texas, and a devoted Freemason, Brother Houston left an enduring legacy of courage, leadership, and unwavering conviction.
Many Masons know that when the Grand Lodge of the Republic of Texas was organized in 1837, Brother Sam Houston presided over the convention that brought Texas Masonry together, helping lay the foundation for what would become the Grand Lodge of Texas. While Brother Anson Jones was elected the first Grand Master, Sam Houston's leadership and dedication were instrumental in the birth of Texas Freemasonry. ๏ฟฝ
Texas State Historical Association +1
As we remember Brother Houston today, may we be inspired to lead with integrity, serve our communities faithfully, and leave behind a legacy worthy of remembrance.
"A man's true monument is not carved in stone, but built through his character and service."
